For my birthday, I wished for several items to spice up my desk a bit. I love cats, pink, and cozy games like Animal Crossing. It’s no wonder that an acquaintance of mine bought the multifunctional Divoom Bluetooth speaker from my wishlist and gifted it to me for my birthday. The speaker is currently on sale for Amazon Prime Day. I’ll explain why you should definitely snag it.

A speaker that is a real eye-catcher
What are the strengths of the Divoom Bluetooth speaker? The Bluetooth speaker is not just a simple speaker, but it has many functions in a small device. Besides useful features like speaker, alarm clock, or radio functions, the device has a unique feature that made me purchase it.
On the screen, it is possible to create animated pixel images and run them in a loop. Since I am not a talented pixel artist myself, I was even more excited that the device has an internal library of animations created by the community.
In the associated app, I was able to create a program from images that are played in sequence while gaming. This way, I can bridge boring loading screens or other waiting times by looking at the cute animations.
The highlight for me is the look of the speaker. It looks like a cute little mini-computer and is available in several colors. The mini-computer even has a joystick that can be used for navigation.

What are the weaknesses of the speaker? The crux of the device is that I don’t use it as a speaker at all, even though it is marketed as such. I accidentally played sound through the mini speaker once and was amazed at how poor the quality is.
If you are looking for a good playback device, I definitely cannot recommend the speaker for that. Even the speakers of my monitor deliver better sound.
Another downside is that the app is somewhat cumbersome to operate with multiple devices from the Divoom family. You first have to establish a connection to the new device in the app before you can control it. I would have preferred the preset programs to run automatically as soon as I turn on the devices and the app.
