Valve released the card game Artifact on November 28, 2018. Just in time for the official release of Artifact, the developers released a trailer for the DOTA 2 card game.
What is Artifact? Artifact is a collectible card game (“Trading Card Game”, TCG for short) set in the universe of the MOBA hit Dota 2. Similar to Hearthstone heroes and spells from Warcraft, Artifact borrows the idea for the cards from Dota 2.
Some key facts:
- Developer: Valve
- Platform: PC (to the Steam website of Artifact)
- Genre: Strategy (Card Game)
- Cost: €17.95
What makes Artifact special? Unlike most online card games, Artifact allows collected cards to be traded on the Steam Marketplace. Individual cards can be bought and sold, and some have already caused a stir before the release.
In Artifact, three game boards are played on, representing the “Lanes” of a MOBA. The goal is to destroy the towers on these paths. The first player to destroy two towers or an Ancient that appears after a tower on a path wins. Playable decks are built using the colors green, blue, red, and black.
By the way, our author Cortyn thinks that Artifact will fail.
