Terminator Arnold Schwarzenegger recently gave British comedian Jack Whitehall a parenting tip on how to be a really good father during his appearance on the Late Night Show “The Graham Norton Show”. The 76-year-old shared how his own children grew up.
In the talk show The Graham Norton Show on October 31, 2023, Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed how he raised his children with discipline while also making them excellent skiers.

“Put the cookie down”
Actor Jack Whitehall explains during the talk show that he is currently working on a Netflix documentary focused on fatherhood.
In that context, Jack Whitehall asks the Terminator star, who is sitting on the couch with him, what advice he would give him as a father.
Arnold Schwarzenegger thinks for a moment and then just replies: “Put the cookie down”. He laughs. Then the actor explains in more detail how he handled parenting.

Schwarzenegger explains that he and his wife split the responsibilities: she took care of raising the children and helping them to become “very good people”. Meanwhile, he was responsible for the discipline of the next Schwarzenegger generation.
For example, he taught them to turn off the lights when they left a room and to save water. The children were even able to wash their own clothes by the age of 5 to 6 through his upbringing.
How disciplined his children grew up was evident during a family ski trip. Schwarzenegger shares how they started complaining after just one run and demanded a cup of hot chocolate. His response:
There will be no hot chocolate […] We will do four runs and after four runs, there will be hot chocolate.

The family skied for an hour and a half before getting hot chocolate. The Terminator star remarked that the children cried a lot back then.
However, he added that later, when his children went skiing with friends, they came to him and thanked him, saying they even “loved” how he raised them back then.
Because: the discipline in skiing during childhood led to them being able to ski much better than their friends now.

Schwarzenegger continues to share in the talk show that his daughter Katherine picked up the parenting measure from him for her 3-year-old daughter.
Katherine lets her daughter ski already. When the three-year-old then whines, the answer is clear: “There will be no hot chocolate.”
