The Dino game ARK: Survival Evolved will have a split-screen mode on Xbox One – but when will it be available?
Two Hunters, One Island
As of today, there is ARK: Survival Evolved on Xbox One as part of the Game Preview Program. There, Xbox players can already try out a variety of features: taming dinosaurs, building fortresses, forming tribes with other players, and creating their own breeding setup. However, a very special feature will not come until next year: the split-screen mode.
If you want, you can also hand a colleague a gamepad, so two people can explore the island and its secrets on one Xbox One. This will have little impact on performance. Regarding this, Jesse Rapczak, co-founder of Studio Wildcard, stated: “Many development studios are giving up on split-screen mode, but we couldn’t bear that for ARK! Friends and family can look forward to working together to survive the harsh environment and uncover the many secrets of the island. All from the same couch.”

However, there is a (relatively large) downside: the split-screen will only be available offline, meaning locally restricted. To participate in online matches, each player will need their own console.
If you are fortunate enough to own two Xbox Ones, you will even be able to host your own server that can accommodate up to 70 players.
