Pelagornis
The Pelagornis belongs to the bird family and prefers to stay near water. Wild Pelagornis are fearful and fly away at the slightest sign of danger.
If you land in the water with it, it functions like a raft that allows you to float.
You can find it in the areas: The Island, Genesis, The Center, Ragnarok, and Valguero. It is one of the more common creatures in ARK.
Taming the Pelagornis
The Pelagornis can be easiest to knock out with tranquilizer arrows. A crossbow might be too strong for the seabird and kill it.
Here’s how to knock it out: If you see the Pelagornis running on the beach, use a lasso to prevent it from flying away. If the bird is in the air, you can put a raft directly underneath it, which might cause it to land on it. Then shoot it with tranquilizer arrows until it is unconscious.
This food the Pelagornis likes best: You can tame the Pelagornis most effectively with regular Kibble. As a true seabird, you don’t have to bring regular meat for this gull-like creature. The Pelagornis enjoys fish and can be easily tamed with raw fish fillets.
Regular Kibble Recipe:
- 1 x Medium Egg
- 1 x Cooked Meat
- 2 x Corn
- 2 x Potatoes
- 5 x Fiber
- 1 x Water
On an official server, you need about 8 to 13 minutes for a level 1 Pelagornis. At level 150, taming can take between 52 minutes and 2 hours.
How to Craft the Saddle
To fly the successfully tamed Pelagornis, you need a saddle. You can acquire the engram for this at level 43 for 30 points.
In the inventory, you can craft the saddle as follows:
- 230 x Leather
- 125 x Fiber
- 75 x Chitin
Utility of the Pelagornis
The water bird is a superb fish killer and receives a massive attack bonus when killing piranhas, sabertooths, salmon, and coelacs. It can obtain a large amount of fish meat in just one hit. However, this bonus does not apply when attacking manta rays or other sea creatures.
The Pelagornis is a fast swimmer and serves as a raft that glides gently on the water. However, be careful, as in swim mode, the Pelagornis attracts dangerous creatures like the Megalodon. The Ichthyosaurus also likes to hang around the Pelagornis, making it easier to tame it. The Pelagornis is considered a good beginner creature to navigate the waters.
What makes this creature special is that you can unpack your fishing rod on it to fish. For this, it’s best to level stamina and weight.
