The Quetzal belongs to the reptile family. It is always in the air and flees when attacked. The Quetzal can become surprisingly fast. However, it can only hold this for a few seconds before returning to its normal speed.

Taming the Quetzal
Taming a Quetzal is not easy, as these creatures never land and always remain in the sky. The best method is to use a Tapejara along with a friend and fly beside the Quetzal. Your friend can shoot the Quetzal from the passenger seat.
Here’s how to knock out the Quetzal: Use a tranquilizer arrow and shoot at the wild Quetzal. The Quetzal will fly directly towards you, making it easy to hit it on the head. You should then quickly step to the side to avoid being hit. You will need to repeat this process a few times. Once it has taken enough damage, it will try to fly away quickly. Then you need to shoot it again quickly. When the Quetzal is on the ground, it is ready to be tamed.
This food is most effective for taming the Quetzal: The Quetzal prefers extraordinary Kibble, raw mutton, or raw prime meat. Raw meat will do if needed.
Extraordinary Kibble Recipe:
- 1 x Extra Large Egg
- 10 x Mejoberries
- 1 x Rare Flower
- 1 x Focal Chili
- 5 x Fiber
- 1 x Water
On an official server, you need about 16 to 120 minutes for a level 1 Quetzal. At level 150, taming can take between 2 and 15 hours.
How to Craft the Saddle
To fly the successfully tamed Quetzal, you need a saddle or a platform saddle. You can acquire the engram for the saddle at level 76 for 44 points, while the platform saddle can be unlocked at level 97 with 80 points.
In the smithy, you can craft the saddle as follows:
- 750 x Leather
- 500 x Fiber
- 100 x Cement/Glue
- 85 x Silica Pearls

- 620 x Leather
- 400 x Fiber
- 180 x Metal Ingots

Utility of the Quetzal
With a platform saddle, the Quetzal becomes a flying base, serving as a combat bird or taming helper. For taming, take your Quetzal with you and stand on it to knock out other dinos at a safe distance.
The Quetzal has massive health and stamina, making it an outstanding battle bird. Equip its platform with other tribe members and towers, allowing you to launch attacks on large areas and other tribes. For this, your Quetzal should have over 10,000 health and over 3,000 stamina. Always level up stamina and health for both taming purposes and combat intentions.
With its long beak, the Quetzal is a skilled fisher, able to farm a variety of sea creatures. It is also capable of killing wild Sarcos.
