In Ark Survival Evolved, there was a “rollback” of the official servers. Players lost their current progress and are upset. The cause was an outage of Amazon’s web service.
On Wednesday, Amazon’s web service (AWS) went down. It hosts a collection of various online services like Dropbox, Netflix, or Reddit. Among them is also Ark Survival Evolved. The survival MMO utilizes AWS for its CrossArk transfer system.
Studio did not announce rollback
Due to the outage, Studio Wildcard had to perform a rollback of its official servers late Thursday evening. Because of a glitch that arose from the outage, the studio was also forced to delete all items from the CrossArk storage.
During a rollback, the servers are reset to an earlier state. What players achieved in the time after is lost – they have to redo that.
However, Wildcard did not announce the rollback, which angered some players. They would have appreciated better communication from the studio. Many are sad about the losses they suffered in Ark. After all, it can take several hours to tame a creature in the game.
As an apology, there is an Evolution Event
Wildcard apologizes to the community and has activated an Evolution Event as compensation. To make up for the lost time, there are bonuses on:
- Breeding
- Maturing
- Egg Hatching Rates
The studio aims to take appropriate measures to prevent a situation like this in the future. The Evolution Event is already active.
