Ark: Survival Evolved is still not officially released and playable only in Early Access, but there is already a full-fledged expansion called “Scorched Earth” that we can also acquire in Early Access. It involves deserts and lizards!
Lack of business acumen cannot be attributed to the developers of Ark: Survival Evolved. Even though the survival game featuring rideable dinosaurs is still not officially released and only available as an Early Access title, there is already a complete large expansion available for purchase. Scorched Earth is also available in Early Access on Steam and costs $19.99.

The expansion takes us through a portal to a barren desert landscape, where our heroes land naked and defenseless. They are relentlessly exposed to the scorching sun, and behind every dune lurks a vicious lizard creature that would love to take a bite out of our hero. Especially cool: In the desert region, there are later flying wyverns that we can tame. By the way, we can bring tamed creatures back to the regular world of Ark, but not the other way around. So no T-Rex in the desert!
What do you think of the business practice of the Ark developers releasing a paid expansion before the actual release? Great idea for more content or does it smell like a scam? Let us know and write it in the comments!
