The survival MMO Ark Survival Evolved will be released on PS4 next week.
Players on PS4 have had to wait a long time for Ark Survival Evolved – Sony does not allow early access, and that was the only way to play Ark on Xbox One and PC for a long time.
Ark gets a “Special Winter Release” on St. Nicholas Day
On PS4, players will finally receive the first official release: On December 6th, on St. Nicholas Day, it begins.
The release is branded as “Special Winter Release.” The developers hint that the PS4 community has been looking forward to the game for a long time and without them, this winter release would not have been possible. Perhaps this also hints that Sony made an exception and approved Ark, even though the “official release” on all platforms was originally planned for Spring 2017 – it seems like things are moving quick now.
The game will be available for purchase in Europe and North America. There will be a bundle with the base game and the large desert expansion “The Scorched Earth.”
How much does Ark Survival Evolved cost on PS4?
PS4 players are expected to receive the latest version of Ark, and Studio Wildcard guarantees: You will get a steady stream of updates. The price will be around €50 in Europe for the package: €35 for the base version, and €20 for the Scorched Earth expansion if purchased separately.
The coming months, Studio Wildcard promises, will be packed with content, new gameplay elements: New dinosaurs, weapons, armor, gameplay mechanics, and comfort updates – all this is promised to players on PlayStation 4 leading up to the “Full Release” in Spring 2017.
The one who dances with early access
My MMO thinks: It is indeed strange. The “release” on PS4 comes out of the blue, while the PC and Xbox One versions are still in “early access”. A version without a massive “beta test” is deemed ready for release, but the PC version, which has been played by thousands for one and a half years – is not release-worthy?
This seems like a compromise with Sony: We are officially releasing with you now because you don’t want “early access”, but the full release on PC and Xbox One won’t be until a few months from now. It seems nobody wants to miss out on the Christmas business, but it is still odd. Hopefully, the PS4 version will actually be polished.
Ark has been playing this “we’re not actually released, we’re in early access” game for one and a half years, but it seems like Ark has been ready for release for a long time. One could even maliciously say: The game is already past its prime and not even out yet. But perhaps they are hoping for a release hype come next spring.
Only last weekend, Ark passed Sony’s “certification”.
