The survival MMO ARK Survival Evolved has sold a million copies on PS4 in just one month.
In summer 2015, ARK Survival Evolved was released on Steam without much announcement. It rode the coattails of the movie “Jurassic World” and hit with the force with which a T-Rex crushes a porta-potty. Back then, the early access title sold over 1 million copies in one month. It was the Steam summer hit of 2015.
With a mix of Minecraft and adventure, great graphics, and innovative game ideas, it captured players on PC. Even though back then, even the beefiest computers groaned and stuttered when trying to render the game on higher settings.

Even a year and a half later, ARK remains explosive. On December 6th, it was released in the PlayStation Store. It was the most downloaded game over PSN in December and January and now reports: “We have already sold 1 million copies for PS4.”
ARK Survival Evolved is still in early access on PC and in a preview program on Xbox One. Although Sony does not support such an “early access” program, the title is out on PS4. The temptation to finally let console gamers play the dino game was probably greater than the principle of “No experiments” for Sony.
A “full release” for all platforms is planned for ARK Survival Evolved in spring 2017.
However – all is not peace, joy, and pancakes in the land of the dinos. Even today, many players are still complaining on PS4 about lags and performance issues. Optimization has never really been the strong suit of ARK and the studio behind it, both today and a year and a half ago. But that should not dampen the joy over the sales success now.
Currently, it is a great time to be an ARK player. Just yesterday, the big update 1.11 for ARK Survival Evolved was released on PS4.
