In ARK Survival Evolved (PC, PS4, Xbox One), it was thought that no more expansions would come and that the developers were already working on ARK 2. But now Studio Wildcard has introduced the ARK Genesis expansion. It is set to be released in two parts: the release of the first part of Genesis is in December 2019. The new features and creatures sound exciting.
Update January 23, 2020: The first part of the DLC Genesis has been postponed. The release is now on February 25, 2020. Part 2 is now planned for Winter 2020.
This is the situation: It was originally thought that the survival MMO ARK Survival Evolved would only receive two expansions after its release in August 2017:
- In December 2017, Aberration was released, featuring the underground.
- In November 2018, Extinction came out, an apocalyptic DLC.
It was known that the developers were already considering the idea of “ARK 2” and their new MMO Atlas was already running. In 2019, things became relatively quiet around ARK Survival Evolved.
But the developers now say: ARK is doing so well and is consistently in the top 10 on Steam. Therefore, they are allowing the title a longer lifespan than initially intended.
ARK Genesis Releases in 2019 and 2020
This is now the surprise: The studio has announced that they will bring a 3rd expansion for ARK Survival Evolved after all. On a teaser page, fans deciphered the message, “This is not Ark 2,” and then the announcement came:
- The first half of Genesis will be released in December 2019.
- The second half will come in the second half of 2020.
There is even already an announcement trailer for ARK: Genesis live.
New Map, Creatures, and a Talking Helper
What’s new? ARK Genesis brings:
- A new map with volcanic regions. There is also supposed to be a “crazy snow mountain” biome.
- A new story.
- New creatures.
- And the first character in ARK that can speak, HLN-A (Human Learning Neural Aid), an AI.
New Floating Base
What is already known about the creatures: Three creatures are known to come with Genesis.
- On the giant turtle, you can build a fortress. The turtle can swim in the water and even dive with the base. Resources will grow on the turtle’s back.
- Then there is a pet that looks cute but transforms into a giant monster when it comes into contact with “Element”.
- And a giant volcanic lizard can be seen.
It looks like ARK 2 is indeed further away than previously thought, and at least we will still have ARK Survival Evolved until 2020.
