Since ARK was released on PS4, players have been complaining about full servers with poor performance. Self-created PS4 servers can help.
Since December of last year, ARK: Survival Evolved is available for PlayStation. PlayStation players were excited to be part of the survival battle in a prehistoric universe. However, this excitement did not last long for some and turned into frustration.
The reason: The server performance is unacceptable for many and makes it impossible to enjoy ARK to the fullest on PS4. The official servers are also overcrowded, and it is already a challenge to find one that still has a free slot.

Can you create your own PS4 ARK server?
Yes.
There is a way to create your own server. However, it is costly. You can run a second PS4 as a server. This incurs not only costs for the second device itself but also ongoing electricity costs. If you turn off the PS4, no other survivors can play anymore.
It should also be noted that in a “Non dedicated Session” you cannot be more than 200m away from the server host. The host console acts as both server and client, as it needs to send information to the console while the host also wants to play. To keep the load on the console low, the same streaming area is calculated for both players.
How can you join a self-created PS4 ARK server?
With the PSN name of a friend.
If you want to join a self-created server, you need to meet two requirements. You must have the console owner on which the server is running in your friends list and have their PSN name. You can then join the ongoing game through the friends list.
How can you find self-created PS4 ARK servers?
There is a website where you can find German self-created PS4 ARK servers: www.ps4-arkserver.de
On this site, you can also introduce your own PS4 ARK server.
Can you rent a PS4 server?
No.
It is currently not possible to rent game servers for PS4. Studio Wildcard is currently reviewing with Sony and various server providers whether this could be possible in the future.
Will the lag issues ever be fixed?
Yes.
However, a little patience is required until everything stabilizes. Lags can also have other reasons that have little to do with the manufacturer. Your own internet connection can be a problem. Also, if you are playing on one of the self-created servers, the console owner’s internet connection can cause issues. Here, one has to look for a server console with good performance.
Can you join Xbox or PC servers?
No.
Currently, this is not possible yet. However, a so-called “Cross Play” is supposed to be introduced soon, which will allow gameplay across all devices. Then it should also be possible for PS4 players to rent one of the PC ARK servers and play on it with their PS4. It would be required that the PC server runs without unofficial mods.
