The DLC “Scorched Earth” for the Steam game ARK: Survival Evolved has been released – but some fans are not amused.
A DLC before the actual launch.
Players of ARK: Survival Evolved are currently in an uproar. What happened? The developers at Studio WildCard released the DLC “Scorched Earth” – and it’s paid, even before the main game was finished.
ARK: Survival Evolved was long considered the flagship project of a successful Early Access title. There was no alleged rip-off, content updates and improvements came in a steady flow, and month by month, the game got better and more extensive. To the surprise of many fans, the paid DLC “Scorched Earth” has now been released. But a paid DLC, even before the game is even remotely finished
Many fans feel simply cheated and believe that ARK is going in the same direction as endless Early Access titles before: squeezing money from fans and then letting the project fizzle out.
But there are also dissenting voices. Many players find the DLC exciting and are having a lot of fun in the game again. The price of $20 also seems reasonable. However, what many dislike is the fact that “new creatures” can also be taken to the old island – the first calls for a (somewhat convoluted) Pay2Win situation are also becoming loud.
Mein-MMO says: A strange situation in which ARK finds itself with its players. As reported by Kotaku, the players’ desires might have led to this problem. Because although the buyers primarily want a “complete game” that is optimized, they also long for new content. Studio Wildcard cannot help but develop in several directions at once to meet the demand. Whether that was a good move will likely be shown in the coming weeks. At least regarding the content of the DLC itself, there is little to complain about – the reviews are positive and entice many fans back out.
