In ARK: Survival Evolved (PC), Patch v257 will soon be deployed. This lowers the level cap and resets the survivors’ engrams. All of this is part of the preparation for the full release.
Tomorrow, on May 4th, PC players of Ark Survival Evolved will receive a new patch v257, if all goes according to plan.
This patch includes new creatures like the “Giant Bee” and other dinos. Additionally, there will be a major overhaul of The Center, which will massively expand the ocean.
In a tweet, Ark’s community manager, Jat, warned of another change in patch v257.
Survivors, beware! Update v257 lowers max level and resets engrams
The max level in Ark Survival Evolved was previously set at level 105. This will change with patch v257. The new level cap will be set to level 100 with the latest update.
Survivors who have already leveled their character above level 100 will be reduced back to level 100.
The level cap will be reduced in connection with a major overhaul of the “engram tree.” The engram tree can be understood like a skill tree in Ark Survival Evolved. Players earn engram points when leveling up and can distribute them. Engrams provide survivors with permanent crafting recipes, allowing them to create weapons or equipment, for example.
Survivors will not lose level experience: Engram points will be refunded
No one will lose their level or statistics through the reset of engram points. Engram points will be refunded. They simply need to be redistributed, with the exception of survivors who have already surpassed level 100. Those players will revert to the new level cap of 100.

In the comments of the tweet, the community manager explained that engrams and levels were just added somehow in the past. It was time for an overhaul of the level system that also includes meta and balancing. Additionally, the developers found that 105 was a strange number.
Studio Wildcard is currently preparing for the full release of ARK: Survival Evolved. The game is set to be finalized soon. This includes fundamental overhauls. However, there is no exact timeframe for the full release yet. Studio Wildcard speaks of “soon” and “shortly.”
So dear survivors, don’t be alarmed, if your engrams suddenly disappear with patch v257. This is part of the update. You keep your experience and get the points back.
