The developers of ARK Survival Evolved are convinced that their Dino MMO should receive a sequel. Additionally, Studio Wildcard is already working on the next DLC, which will be released after Aberration.
Studio Wildcard is planning a ton of new content for ARK Survival Evolved and is even considering a sequel. In an interview with DualShockers, co-creative director Jesse Rapczak spoke about the future of the franchise.
According to Rapczak, the new expansion Aberration will come to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in November 2017. It was originally scheduled to be released in October but has been postponed to an indefinite date.
The next expansion is set to release in 2018 – After that, ARK 2 might come
The next expansion after Aberration is already in pre-production. What this DLC will include has not yet been revealed by Rapczak.
After this planned expansion, Studio Wildcard could start working on a sequel to ARK Survival Evolved. However, the sales figures of Aberration must meet the studio’s expectations.
According to Rapczak, ARK will need to receive a sequel sometime in the next one to two years. That is something Wildcard definitely plans to do, provided the timing is right.
Currently, the studio is not working on a sequel yet. However, Rapczak believes that ARK has been successful enough to justify a sequel in the future.
There are currently no plans on what ARK 2 would include. The team still has too many ideas they want to implement in the original ARK Survival Evolved and its expansions. However, Rapczak has the feeling that Wildcard will determine the future of ARK once the two planned expansions are released.
By the way, the Virtual Reality game ARK Park will be released in December 2017 – In this virtual Jurassic Park, the dinos will be close enough to reach out and touch.
