The survival MMO ARK: Survival Evolved receives a new map – created by the community. Valguero was developed as part of a competition, featuring new biomes, new dungeons, and a new dinosaur species.
What is Valguero? Originally, the new map Valguero was a mod for ARK: Survival Evolved, created by players Nekatus and Buttman. However, during a modding contest, it was declared the winner of this competition in November 2018, with a prize of $15,000.
At that time, Valguero was a “beautiful map with a high level of polish,” as stated in the official forum. It was only playable for PC players as a mod through the Steam Workshop.
Now Valguero will officially become a part of the game as the sixth map (seventh if you count the “Extinction” expansion among the maps). It will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and Steam on PC.
These features are included:
- 63km² of new area to explore, divided into eight different biomes
- The new species “Deinonychus”
- An arena challenge with three bosses
- A massive cave system
- Ruins holding the secrets of its inhabitants

What can the new dinosaur do? The Deinonychus is an aggressive carnivore that behaves in many ways like the well-known raptors. It even hunts prey that is significantly larger than itself.
The Deinonychus cannot be tamed, but players can hatch its eggs and later ride the dinosaur. Some players already see the Deinonychus as a good PvP dinosaur. Its appearance resembles that of a raptor with claws and talons.
What kind of arena is this? In the new arena, you will face three bosses in succession:
- a Megapithecus
- a Manticore
- and finally a Dragon
The challenge is aimed at endgame players.
When can I play? Valguero will be played as part of the official maps with the patch on June 18, 2019.
