Recently, ARK: Survival Evolved completed the last chapter of its main story with Genesis Part 2. But how is the DLC received by players? MeinMMO summarizes what is rated well and what is less well.

In addition, several extensive innovations and features come into play. This includes the probably largest map of ARK to date. Here is an overview of the contents:
- The Eden Zone, a new starting area for beginners with all necessary resources for survival
- Tek Trenches, a kind of bridge between biomes and possibly the rings of the world
- Rockwell’s Garden and a biome that seems to have merged with Rockwell himself
- New creatures like the Astrodelphis, a space dolphin that you can ride
- New weapons like net projectiles, the Tek bow with special arrows, and a minigun
- Tools, structures, and cosmetics

Voices on ARK Genesis Part 2 – From frustration to enthusiasm, everything is present
This is how the DLC is received on Steam: The DLC was released on June 3rd, so there are only a few reviews on Steam. However, there are some reviews that can provide a picture of the DLC. Here, there are already significant differences.
- Overall, there have been around 272 positive reviews since the release on June 3rd.
- This stands in contrast to 312 negative ratings (via steampowered.com).
- The negative ratings thus outweigh, though only by a small margin.
LemonLoli writes a completely devastating review: “This final chapter serves as a constant reminder that you, the players, do not matter to Wildcard.” The player particularly criticizes that assets were probably reused for the map. The enemy AI and spawn points of hostile dinosaurs were also noted negatively (via steampowered.com).
Steam user Pondo, on the other hand, criticizes that the DLC ignores part of what makes ARK what it is: “The DLC cut out a large part of the content and progression of Ark from the start.” He justifies this by stating that you start with the tech armor directly at the beginning of Genesis Part 2, making any taming of flying reptiles and collecting of resources unnecessary (via steampowered.com).
The positive voices strongly show how widely the opinions of many players differ on these points. User Sloonzo rates the map positively: “Genesis Part 2 has blown me away so far. The map is huge and diverse. The atmosphere and design of the map are beautiful!”
Also, the criticized starting equipment is viewed positively by others. User Xur’s Oiled Cheeks writes about it: “…it really enhances the experience of every player to start in the ‘endgame’ without having to mod or cheat.” (via steampowered.com).
What is the conclusion? Whether you like the DLC depends largely on your own expectations. Those who hope for an experience like in the standard game, where you have to work your way up from scratch, may be disappointed.
But if you want a kind of best-of of ARK, you could be happy with Genesis Part 2 and the last story chapter.
