ARK Genesis has been online for nearly a week now and the critical voices in the community are still loud. One of the problems is flying; it doesn’t work. We will tell you how to manage it anyway.
Genesis, the fourth official expansion to the dino-survival hit ARK: Survival Evolved, is currently receiving a lot of criticism. With a Steam rating of just 38%, the DLC is among the worst expansions of ARK. Our author Sascha Asendorf also has an opinion on this, he finds the biomes too small. However, one of the main problems is flying.
Help, I can’t fly in Genesis!
What’s going on? Throughout the Genesis expansion, players are unable to fly on their flying dinos. They can be tamed, but simply do not take off anymore. An exception is the Space Whale and the TEK Hover Skiff, both of which belong more to the endgame.
The fact that players cannot fly, however, is not the biggest problem. In the Aberration DLC, there were also no flying dinos to tame and players managed. In Genesis, however, there are flying dinos freely roaming in the wild. After taming, they forget their ability to fly, and with TEK armor, flying is impossible. Many players are confused by this decision of the developers.
This is what the community says:
- reddit user ToxicSnallygaster writes: “It’s funny that they add new versions of flying dinos and then don’t allow us to fly them.”
- reddit user comradejenkens states: “The sad part is that the map offers an open sky and it feels like flying dinos belong there.”
The Solution to the Genesis Flying Problem
It is possible to enable flying in Genesis again. However, this currently only works on private servers and not on the official ones. For players on official servers, Wildcard also has a solution. New Genesis servers are set to go online on March 3rd, which will have special settings.
- Building allowed in mission areas
- No missions active
- Flying allowed
- TEK armor fully functional again
This is what you need to do as a private server owner
To enable flying on a private server, there are two options. Either there is already a corresponding “Genesis – allow flying creatures” option from your server host that you need to activate, or you edit the GameUserSettings.ini file.
If you edit the GameUserSettings.ini, you need to add the following command: bForceCanRideFliers=true
With that, you are able to use flying dinos in Genesis again.
