In ARK Survival Evolved (PC, PS4, Xbox One), there was an outcry in the community as the players’ turrets are to be disabled on a large scale. The turrets cause significant problems on PvP servers. Additionally, the new expansion Aberration has been pushed to December.
Over the weekend, an uproar spread through the world of ARK Survival Evolved. In a blog post, Studio Wildcard announced that turrets will receive a nerf and be limited for players.
The turrets are currently a staple in the PvP mode of the dino MMO and are used in mass – this is where the difficulty lies.

Turrets significantly degrade performance in PvP
Performance has long been a major issue in ARK Survival Evolved. Players have been struggling with crashes and severe lags, especially on official servers. Recently, Studio Wildcard designed a tool that analyzes the servers and identifies performance issues.
The tool concluded that the mass of turrets accounts for a significant portion of the poor performance in ARK. PC servers are more affected by this than console servers since they have fewer limitations. Every single server suffers considerably from slowdowns due to the many turrets.
Among the 150 slowest servers, only 15 are PvE servers. The problem mainly occurs on PvP servers, where the situation is really bad. Therefore, the turrets will now receive a density nerf.
The turrets are a key part of the meta in PvP, where tribes compete against each other. Players were upset when they learned about the nerf to the turrets.

On December 5, all turrets exceeding the new density limit will be disabled
To tackle the problem, Studio Wildcard will introduce a density limit for the turrets. There will be a restriction on how many turrets can be placed within a certain radius.
With a new patch, players will be informed about what the new limit will be and whether they exceed it. By December 5, survivors will have time to adjust their use of turrets.
The following types of turrets are affected:
- Plant Species X
- Autoturrets
- TEK turrets
All turrets that exceed the new density limit will be disabled on December 5. At the same time, turrets will receive a buff granting them 20% more damage.
After players protested, Studio Wildcard also announced that they will introduce a new turret. This turret is supposed to be generally 4x more effective than the previous turrets.

Release of the expansion Aberration postponed to December
Amid all the drama about the turrets over the weekend, an important announcement nearly got overlooked: The new DLC Aberration has been postponed to December 2017. Aberration was originally set to release in October 2017.
