The survival MMO ARK: Survival Evolved has postponed its release date on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. ARK was supposed to hit the stores in nearly two weeks, but that won’t happen.
It was somewhat expected, but still surprising: ARK: Survival Evolved does not meet its release date. This was just announced.
- The old release date was set for August 8
- The new release date is August 29, which is 3 weeks later than originally planned.
Simply not finished
They have just now achieved the “Gold Master” and certification. This is too late, and therefore Studio Wildcard has to postpone the launch of ARK.
The team sincerely apologizes for the delay. This is neither what they planned nor what they wanted, but it is what it is now. They announced the delay so late because they are only now completely sure about what will happen.
This has some implications for the near future:
- The Free DLC Ragnarok for PS4 and Xbox One will also only come on August 29. It has already been postponed many times, now once again.
- Just like the PC patch, (which is supposed to bring the endgame): It will also only come on August 29.
- In the coming weeks, they want to patch more, especially on PC, to address issues that the community finds annoying. Now that they have the “Gold Master”, they want to focus on patches again. Especially the game should run better on PC – and if it runs well there, they want to transfer the performance improvements to PS4 and Xbox One.
- Mid-August, they want to release a major patch that finally fixes the duplicate exploit, shields ARK against DDoS attacks, and allows console players access to dedicated servers.
Mein-MMO says: We kind of saw it coming. Studio WildCard is a relatively small studio with about 30 people in the core team, and ARK is a mega-hit. The problems in managing the launch have been apparent in recent weeks. It is said that the huge duplicate exploit was only possible because the release consumed all resources:
