Studio Wildcard has announced the release date of the survival game ARK: Survival Evolved for Nintendo Switch. However, players are skeptical and wonder about this announcement.
ARK: Survival Evolved is very popular but also heavily criticized. Now the developers want to reach players on the Nintendo Switch.
Dino hunting on the Switch
This is the release date for ARK on the Switch: ARK was already announced for the Switch in March. Now, with November 30, 2018, the release date is also confirmed. The game will be offered at full price.
As the developers announced, it is supposed to be exactly the same game that is currently playable on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. A mobile version is also available.
This is what makes ARK on the Switch special:
- It offers the same content
- You embark on a hunt for over 100 creatures, including dinosaurs
- Survival is important
- You interact with hundreds of other players
- Using crafting, you create better equipment
- You build structures for protection and fortifications together with other players
- You participate in large PvP battles
This is how ARK looks on the Switch: A first trailer showcases some gameplay scenes from the Switch version. These reveal good graphics for the Switch – even if in some scenes you can see that the textures are not as high resolution as those on other platforms.
The Nintendo Switch is not as powerful as, for example, a PC or Xbox One. Accordingly, a few compromises have to be made here. Nevertheless, what is shown looks very good.
ARK: Survival Evolved on the Switch – Can this go well?
This is how players react: The reactions are marked by surprise and wonder. While many are happy that ARK is coming to the Switch, they wonder how this will work. Because the performance of the title is often not optimal even on other more powerful systems.
Especially since Jesse Rapczak, co-creative director of the title, previously stated that a port would be “very complicated,” many fans are now curious how the developers have solved the performance issue.
Thus, jinglejangle writes on Eurogamer: “Even on Xbox One, it runs like crap. This will be a slideshow!”
Svecke says: “I can’t wait to see the performance.”
