What is Starbase? Starbase is a new MMO from the Finnish developer Frozenbyte. The studio made a name for itself mainly with the well-known Trine series, a puzzle game with RPG elements.
Now, the developers want to launch an online game in space, where you can build and explore everything yourself. So, it’s an ultimate sandbox.

What are the special features of Starbase: In Starbase, you can design everything yourself thanks to the employed Voxel/Vertex hybrid technology. Every bolt and every deck plate of your spaceships is made by you. Therefore, you can let your creativity run wild and build truly unique spaceships.
The necessary ore is mined from asteroids and transported to the refinery with transporters. If you’re not into that, you can of course roam as a pirate and raid such deliveries.
As seen in the game’s trailer, there are also epic battles for space stations. A lot gets shot to bits, which then needs to be rebuilt. The fights seem to take place in a sort of shooter style.
This makes the game feel like a mix of Star Citizen and Minecraft, where you can let your creativity run free in space.
What do you play in Starbase: In Starbase, you seem to play as robots rather than humans or aliens. They are represented in two factions, “Kingdom” and “Empire”, and seem to be fighting over resources and influence.
The universe of Starbase is said to be infinite and contain plenty of places to explore and resources to mine.
When and on which platforms will Starbase be released? So far, Starbase has only been announced on Steam for PC. Early Access is expected to occur “later in 2019” according to the Steam page.
