In Destiny 2, the debate has long heated up over the question: Is teabagging and emotes in PvP actually fair? Tell us how you feel about it.
Do you know the phenomenon? Anyone who has spent a bit of time in the Crucible of Destiny 2 knows the situation: Your opponent has just barely taken you out. To make matters worse, you see in the kill cam how he then calmly teabags or performs a provocative gesture.
If such behavior annoys you, do you shrug it off or are you the one doing the teabagging? We want to know your thoughts on this topic.
Before we take a look at why such behavior occurs in online games and what the situation looks like in Destiny 2.

Showing Dominance
What is teabagging anyway? The phenomenon of ‘teabagging’ can be found in many online games. You crouch or squat over the defeated opponent. Then you duck repeatedly and stand up again, creating the appearance that you are dipping a teabag repeatedly into a cup and taking it out again. Hence the name. Through the so-called kill cam, the defeated player must helplessly watch the process.
That’s why teabagging is practiced in online games: If you search on Google for the phenomenon of teabagging, you will come across numerous posts and articles on the subject. Many people wonder about the why. The answer often thrown around by players is “to demonstrate my dominance.”
Generally, the etiquette of teabagging seems to suggest that it is acceptable as long as it happens within a group of friends and everyone is having fun. However, even if a stranger has humiliated you with teabagging and you retaliate with your own teabagging, this phenomenon is considered acceptable.
In the end, most people probably just find it funny. It somehow belongs to the game and is meant to be understood as teasing.
This is an excerpt from an article by our author Leya. She has explored the topic of “teabagging” in more detail. You can find out more about it here:
What is the situation in Destiny 2? Teabagging can also be freely done in Bungie’s looter shooter. In addition, the fact that Guardians not only have the ‘crouch function’ comes into play.
Destiny 2 offers you the ability to perform gestures (known as emotes). With the press of a button, your character can dance or cheer. Players have a wide variety of gestures to choose from.
These include mundane things like ‘nodding’ or ‘pointing in one direction.’ But there are also elaborate animations, such as angrily flipping a table.

A Matter of Honor
How do players react to this? For many players, being teabagged after their death is considered a humiliation. This also applies to many emotes. A gesture that is actually funny can quickly be interpreted as provocation when done in the kill cam.
However, not every player reacts the same way to these behaviors. Some Guardians are motivated by this. They change their gear or play ‘seriously.’ The teabagger has effectively created a nemesis for the rest of the match.
Generally, it is often heard that many PvP players get back at the teabagger or emote user in kind. If an opponent has “humiliated” first, he is essentially fair game and can expect a teabagging in return.
Does such behavior belong in PvP? This can’t be answered straightforwardly. Some players generally reject such practices as unsportsmanlike. Other Guardians, on the other hand, use teabagging or emotes in particular situations.
Was an opposing Guardian shot out of their super in cold blood? Did you take out multiple opponents, despite being outnumbered? Does the opponent use the most unfair loadout ever? After such situations, some believe that a flashy emote can certainly be justified.
The distinction between the various game modes also plays a role for some in their emote behavior. For example, in the casual ‘quickplay matches’, a small provocation is okay. Whereas in the more serious competitive mode, PvP etiquette should be observed.
