At the start of Diablo 4, there will be five classes available for you to choose from. So far, three of them have been confirmed. We will show you which classes could still be possible at release.
What classes does Diablo 4 offer? Diablo 4 was officially revealed at BlizzCon 2019. We now know that D4 is going to be quite dark. In the gameplay trailer, you could already get a glimpse of some of the battles in the game. But who will be sent into battle against the hordes of monsters at launch?
So far, Blizzard has confirmed three classes: Sorceress, Barbarian, and Druid – This is what they can do in Diablo 4. However, the developers will be adding two more classes into the ring for launch. What those are is still a secret. But there are two strong contenders that point towards these classes.
What are the 4th and 5th classes for Diablo 4?
Where does the idea come from? The YouTuber Bluddshed is a well-known figure in the Diablo community. He regularly streams Diablo 3 and creates guide videos to help the community with leveling and builds. He was also present at BlizzCon 2019 and streamed a live broadcast introducing the existing classes in Diablo 4.
In one of his videos, Bluddshed discusses why Paladin and Amazon would be a good choice for the two remaining class slots in Diablo IV.
What does Diablo 4 offer? Considering the three presented classes, D4 covers the following genres:
- Ranged Caster
- Melee fighter with physical damage, both 2H and 1H
- A melee hybrid with a staff
What does Diablo 4 lack? What the already existing classes Sorceress, Barbarian, and Druid do not cover is:
- Ranged DPS
- Class with Holy/Light damage
- Fast attackers
- Class with shield and 1H
- Pet class
Paladin
What speaks for the Paladin? Given the missing attributes for Diablo 4, a Paladin would make sense. The class would play with a shield and one-handed weapons and also cover the “Holy” area. With this one class, Blizzard could satisfy fans of two play styles.
Bluddshed also mentions artwork that was released during BlizzCon. One of the shields would visually suit a Paladin.
In line with the Paladin speculation, there are also the Runewords that Blizzard is bringing back in Diablo 4. In the past, these complemented aura classes – the Paladin would fit in well here again.
The Crusader could also be an option for this setup. However, since this class is already playable in Diablo 3, the expectation is more towards the Paladin.

What speaks for the Amazon? It is hard to imagine that Diablo 4 would launch without a class that deals physical damage from a distance. Such an archer or hunter is actually part of the standard repertoire of an RPG. In Diablo 1, there was the Huntress with her bow. In Diablo 2, the Amazon with bow and throwing spears.
The Amazons are associated with spears and shields, matching the showcased artwork. She could throw spears, but was also effective in melee combat with elemental damage. This class would therefore combine shields, spears, and ranged DPS.
Whatever classes may come, you will be able to adapt them to your playstyle with talent trees and runewords. 6 major changes to expect in Diablo 4.
