After WoW Classic caused long queues in August and September, thousands of players now have to queue for ArcheAge Unchained. The demand for a new MMORPG is obviously high among many players.
What just happened in ArcheAge? On October 15, ArcheAge Unchained was released, and at the launch at 12:00 PM, there were queues of over 500 players per server. These continued to rise towards primetime.
At peak times, according to reddit, more than 13,000 players were waiting on the American servers to enter the MMORPG. The actual release planned for Tuesday on Steam had not even taken place yet.
The large number of interested players had already been indicated on the test servers, where there were already long queues.
Where are all these players coming from? The rush to the launch of ArcheAge Unchained is particularly high because housing takes place in the open world, and the best spots are quickly taken. Playing early thus pays off especially well.
However, many are also interested in ArcheAge beyond housing. There have been discussions about the game in the MMORPG subreddit for weeks, and many newcomers are showing interest. Our guide to leveling quickly is also receiving a lot of interest.
Besides ArcheAge, there were also long queues at WoW Classic in August. Players showed great interest in both MMORPGs.
What is special about both MMORPGs? What is fascinating about ArcheAge Unchained and WoW Classic is actually the fact that neither MMORPG is new:
- The same ArcheAge has actually existed for years, only with a subscription and the ability to exchange real money for in-game currency.
- WoW Classic is the remake of the MMORPG from 2004, but made Asmongold the most-watched streamer in the entire third quarter on Twitch.
A change in monetization and the re-release of an old MMORPG is enough to attract tens of thousands of players and even achieve extreme success on Twitch.
How much interest would there be in a truly new MMORPG?
Huge interest in MMORPGs a chance for future games?
How are new MMORPGs doing in the West? Besides ArcheAge and WoW Classic, there was only one other major MMORPG release this year. This is Astellia, which comes from Korea and was released in September.
This one opened a new server in Europe about a week ago, but it has been flying under the radar of many gaming websites and players.
Even with other Asian MMOs that have already failed in other countries before their release in the West, hype is building, as Bless Online proved in 2018.
The hunger for new MMORPGs is so great that even imported games are receiving a lot of attention – even if they come from the second or third tier.
But many new MMORPGs are currently being developed in the West, all of which have one thing in common: they take an incredibly long time to reach a finished version.
What MMORPGs are coming our way? Currently, some exciting MMORPGs are on the brink of release. Of these, Kingdom Under Fire 2 and Bless Unleashed are even set to release this year. However, the latter is being viewed with much skepticism by players.
In addition to other games from the Asian market, such as Project TL and A:IR, a lot of new things are being developed in the West, including:
- Crowfall
- Camelot Unchained
- Ashes of Creation
- Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen
- and Chronicles of Elyria

What is the status of new MMORPGs from the West? But especially the Western games are currently not ready for release. Only Crowfall has something resembling a release plan at the moment.
For the rest, we might have to wait years. With Ashes of Creation, you can at least currently test the game in the form of a Battle Royale.
As long as none of the MMORPGs are released, we may have to be satisfied with remakes of WoW and ArcheAge or adjusted Asian games like Astellia. The latter fared quite well in our test:
