At Trion Worlds, an extra night shift has been added to fix the server issues with the sandbox MMO ArcheAge, and they have denied a series of increasingly bizarre rumors. Meanwhile, they are receiving negative press due to the prolonged server outage.
From exploits to a server shutdown, the rumors
Even during the night from Monday to Tuesday US time (which is just now), Trion Worlds has been working to fix the problems. This had already happened the night before. However, the agitated fans were not quite ready to believe it: “The 3 people working on this go to sleep for 8 hours every night, that’s why we haven’t heard anything!” was one of the forum comments that Trion Worlds had to listen to overnight. “No,” the response was, “there are many people working on this, there’s just little news.”
“The server is deleted and will never return!” – “No, that’s not the case.”
“There were serious exploits, that’s why you shut everything down!” – “No, these are purely technical difficulties with the server.”
And our personal highlight: “Someone who works at Trion Worlds told me that the servers overheated, then a fire broke out, everything was in flames and now you are trying to save what can be saved.” – “No, that simply did not happen.”
They also ruled out a DDoS attack as a cause.
Victims of the server downtime: Dead pets, wilted plants, the reputation of Trion Worlds
As producer Victoria Voss announced around 5 AM US West Coast time, some servers are now available again. However, others are still not accessible and do not appear in the server selection. In Europe, these are Nui, Janudar, and Nebe. These are the three servers,which just opened at the end of September after being repurchased and were temporarily held up in customs. Work is still ongoing on the issues.
A generous compensation for all the dead virtual pets, wilted plants, and expired rents was promised. However, they were not specific, and Trion Worlds will address this once they have the issues under control. They are aware of the players’ concerns.
Meanwhile, the backlash in the USA is slowly reaching MMO sites. The major US site Massive has now reported on the server issues twice. On one of the few other sites covering ArcheAge, mmobomb, an editorial has been published, a text by the editor titled “ArcheAge’s descent into madness and I am getting off the Trion Worlds train,” in which the author expresses such disappointment with Trion Worlds that he is now boycotting his beloved Rift as well.
