The sandbox MMO ArcheAge by Trion is getting a wave of new fresh start servers in 2018. Not all players are pleased with this.
ArcheAge recently provided players with some new servers where they could start completely anew. Trion has now announced that these will not be the last servers. Soon, there will be more fresh start realms for ArcheAge. This brings joy to some players but also criticism.
Fresh start servers are controversial
Many players love these “fresh start servers” because the initial phase of a sandbox MMO like ArcheAge is particularly enjoyable for many gamers. Everything is still new and unspoiled. No one is stronger than the others; you can still achieve everything and you are not running against highly cultivated hardcore characters who have months of advantage. Moreover, there is a chance for good housing spots, as not everything has been fully explored.
Other players find it totally ridiculous that new servers are constantly being created instead of taking care of the old realms. After all, not everyone wants to start over all the time. Furthermore, realms are repeatedly closed or merged with other servers due to the low player count.
In addition, they suspect a cheap trick from Trion behind the new servers. Because those who start anew often spend some real money to acquire a few useful items from the cash shop at the start.
New servers later in 2018
However, it seems certain that new servers are coming. One player closely examined the last live stream of the developers on the subject and edited out the relevant information. According to this, new servers are definitely part of the plan for the later part of 2018.
Originally, they were planned for December 2017, but according to Associate Producer Seraphina Brennan, “it was not the right time yet.” In 2018, fresh start servers for ArcheAge are definitely on the plan.
