In the sandbox MMO ArcheAge, issues with cheaters have become so significant that it qualifies for a top-ten list of the biggest problem programs. The list is currently circulating on reddit.
That ArcheAge has problems with illegal methods is something everyone likely knows by now. Even the biggest fan must admit that the game is plagued by hacks and cheats. We reported about this almost two weeks ago, that most of the problems originate from Russian forums where the hacks have been developed for their version for some time and are now to be translated into English, as the hackers are expecting to profit from this. It seems that good progress has been made in this regard. Even though Trion Worlds has since adopted a more stringent anti-hack policy, there are still countless incidents every day where “honest” players are frustrated with incidents in the game.
Cheating as a Business Model
In fact, ArcheAge, where “Gold” has such a high value, is particularly susceptible to cheats and hacks. And the wrongdoers do not do this – as in shooter games – for “trolling” or as a “pastime”, but deceive their opponents and ultimately rob themselves of honest success; behind many of them lies a commercial intention. Moreover, the problems associated with placing buildings on properties that are currently being demolished are documented and annoy many. Even though Trion Worlds has announced they want to find solutions, the game is still in the hype phase of its beginning and risks stumbling over this advantage.
Also annoying: Anyone who succeeds in the game immediately faces accusations that they only achieve this through constant cheating. In some ways, ArcheAge currently resembles cycling in recent years.
