It’s time again for our MeinMMO format “MMORPG-News in two minutes”. We summarize the most important news about the best genre in the world. Look forward to new content for WoW, exciting alpha insights, and many updates.
The highlights of the week:
- The fourth season of WoW: Dragonflight has started. Since this is a fateful season, all raid instances of the current expansion will return. Additionally, Blizzard has introduced a new resource with the Ancient Bronze Bars. You can find out in detail what you can do starting this week by reading the guide by MeinMMO demon Cortyn.
- This has not happened with any expansion before: After the trouble with the benchmarking tool for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, Square Enix announced that they want to replace the software with a significantly improved version. Some players, who had carefully observed the automatically running scenes of the benchmark, noted that the graphic update appears to negatively affect the appearance of their character.
What else has happened? We were allowed to play the currently ongoing alpha test phase of Pax Dei. The sandbox MMORPG feels like a survival game without the struggle for survival in the first hours of gameplay. Here’s our first impression from the alpha of Pax Dei.

What happened with the major MMORPGs:
- Patch 10.2.7 for World of Warcraft will be released on May 8, 2024. From May 16, you can dive into the limited-time in-game event Remix: Mists of Pandaria. Since this event is about leveling through Pandaria with a freshly created character, Blizzard is increasing the number of maximum character slots per account from 60 to 65.
- There are new insights from the alpha of WoW: The War Within! Alchemy is expected to play a significant role in the upcoming addon, with a variety of potions. It is also clear that all Azeroth heroes will have to start from scratch with their professions.
- The developers of Lost Ark have released the new roadmap for the next three months. It contains so many new features that players are complaining about the high update pace.
- A highly anticipated alpha feature of Star Citizen has been postponed: the cargo functions with the personal player hangar, cargo lifts, item banks, and cargo missions. Some other improvements made it into the current test version, such as optimizations for the first-person perspective and Arena Commander mode, or improvements in water simulation and calculation.
- The developers of New World present you with an in-depth analysis of the eight artifacts coming to the game with the upcoming season (via official website).
- The patch from April 24, 2024 for Black Desert ensured that the so-called “Life Skills” are now available not just to the character, but to the entire family (via official patch notes). This is a significant convenience gain.
What happened with the smaller MMORPGs:
- Albion Online finally received a European server this week. The first season of the server is set to start in May (via official website).
- Life is Feudal: MMO is back! After more than three years of hiatus, it immediately received negative reviews on Steam.
- Lineage 2 turns 20 years old and celebrates the anniversary in three different versions of the MMORPG oldie.
- On June 27, 2024, the responsible parties of Kakao Games will shut down the servers of ArcheAge (via official website).
- On April 23, 2024, the expansion “Adventures in Wildspace” was released for Neverwinter (via official website). In this, you can experience the finale of the Spelljammer story that was initiated with the previous expansion.
- For Eve Online, CCP has announced the new expansion Equinox, which is set to be released on June 11. You can expect a fortified null-security zone, the ability to create custom skins, and improvements for your Vanguard arsenal (via official website).
What happened with the MMORPGs in development:
- Throne and Liberty uses a clever system to combat bot accounts. Characters that behave suspiciously summon phantom knights who then hunt the alleged cheaters.
- The Dark-Fantasy MMORPG Raven 2 is set to be released this year for PC and mobile devices. The first cinematic trailers remind one of great predecessors such as Dark Souls. Now there was an introduction of the six classes.
- Tarisland wants to encourage as many players as possible to preregister, with a raffle of iPhones and gift vouchers.
With that, we have summarized the most important news (there were indeed many more announcements in the genre over the past days), that has recently happened in the world of MMORPGs.
