After a severe exploit in the ArchePass of ArcheAge was made known, Gamigo banned over 200 accounts in the MMORPG. However, it has come to light that apparently more and more players are being unbanned.
What exploit is this about? Those who switch between ArchePässen in the MMORPG ArcheAge Unchained can complete world boss missions up to 17 times a day and receive 50 gold for each.
This has led to inflation in the game, negatively impacting the game’s economy.
How did Gamigo respond? The company stated that they have a “zero tolerance policy” towards exploits.
A hotfix was released that removes the exploit and reduces the gold in the game. Furthermore, Gamigo stated that more than 200 accounts were permanently banned for exploiting.
Following the banning wave, unbans occur
Is everything alright then? The community initially expressed happiness that action was taken against exploiters. However, the mood soon changed when it became evident that apparently more and more players were suddenly being unbanned.
Why are players being unbanned? Those who are banned can, of course, contact Gamigo and try to clarify the situation. With a bit of luck, they can then get their account back.
However, discussions on Reddit indicate that it is mainly streamers who appear to be getting unbanned.
- KlausEcir writes on Reddit: “Streamers of some size who made the exploit known and even used it in their streams are getting unbanned because they complained to the developers.”
However, the community is divided on this issue. It is unclear whether the streamers actually used the exploit or were merely raising awareness about it.
Nonetheless, it leaves a certain aftertaste when streamers suddenly get unbanned after a banning wave.
An extremely heated atmosphere
What is the current situation? The atmosphere in the community is tense, and the situation seems to be spiraling out of control.
Some players get the impression that one just has to complain a bit and one will be unbanned.
First ban – later check?
Others, however, explain that it is entirely normal to first ban those who apparently used the exploit and to unban them once they could prove they did not exploit.
- Crusader_Cow means: “They first banned and then looked at who really exploited the game. The majority of those banned had already reached 55 and farmed the bosses without using the exploit.”
- Kisvol explains: “You do realize that the ones who were unbanned are those who did not exploit? They just banned those who defeated a certain number of world bosses. Only then did they properly review the accounts.”
