Some had already suspected it, now it’s officially confirmed: ArcheAge 2 is coming and according to the developer studio XL Games, we can expect a huge MMORPG.

What exactly did XL Games announce? The game, which is currently being developed by the studio in collaboration with Kakao Games, is indeed ArcheAge 2. Until now, one could only speculate based on job postings, but now it’s official.
XL Games explains that ArcheAge 2 offers the same freedoms as its predecessor ArcheAge. It is therefore again a sandbox MMORPG, but it is supposed to be massive. There is talk of a next-gen AAA MMORPG.
ArcheAge 2 is really coming!
This is what CEO Jake Song says about ArcheAge 2: The head of the development studio has big plans with the new MMORPG, which he is producing with an eye on the international market.
ArcheAge, which officially launched in early 2013, has already been running for more than seven years. Back then, I wanted to create a model for a new MMORPG that combines Lineage and WoW, and I think it has been well received in the market. I am particularly proud that more than half of the total revenue has been generated overseas, especially in North America and Europe.
I have the desire to now develop a great game with ArcheAge 2 that gains recognition for its success in the global market as well as for its quality.

What do we know about the game? XL Games has not revealed much yet. We know that the new game is ArcheAge 2 and that a very large AAA MMORPG awaits us. In addition, players will have a lot of freedom in a sandbox world.
In addition, Unreal Engine 5 will be used. This is interesting in multiple ways:
- The job postings for the new game in spring 2020 still referred to Unreal Engine 4. The development of the MMORPG thus started with this engine and the studio wants to switch to the new version upon the release of UE 5.
- Unreal Engine 5 has already caused jaws to drop during its presentation. Especially the Nanite technology enables computer-generated objects in the game that are qualitatively on par with those from movies. This means we can expect fantastic visuals.
How many people are working on ArcheAge 2 and when will it be released? According to XL Games, more than 50 developers are currently working on ArcheAge 2.
The studio has not yet announced a release date. However, since the MMORPG is supposed to use Unreal Engine 5, which will not be available until 2021, a release is likely not to be expected before 2022.
At least until then, you can expect further support for ArcheAge 1. A very extensive expansion for the MMORPG was released just last June.
What will happen to the predecessor after the release of ArcheAge 2 is still unclear. It is conceivable that both games will run in parallel for at least a while. However, it is also possible that with the release of the sequel, ArcheAge 1 will be shut down. Here, however, the international publishers will certainly have a say.
