The developers of ARC Raiders are planning fights against powerful ARCs, but that could overload the shooter’s servers.
Where does the information come from? The design lead of ARC Raiders, Virgil Watkins, spoke with GamesRadar about the endgame of the extraction shooter. It currently consists mainly of killing Queens and Matriarchs on the PvE side of the game.
The development team is fundamentally satisfied with it, but Watkins does not believe they can rest on their laurels. They are looking at how to improve the PvE experience for players.
The problem with PvE is that players are getting better at understanding the attack patterns of the ARCs, how to avoid them and quickly take them down. This makes the nasty robots a diminishing threat, Watkins notes. Therefore, they want to continuously ramp up the challenge of the game.
Giant ARCs could overload servers
What does the developer say about the powerful robots? Watkins explains that the developers are looking at both the small ARCs that you encounter abundantly on the maps and the large event ARCs like the Matriarchs.
However, the large ARCs present a small problem, as the game could “explode” if you simply unleash these ‘mountain striders’ onto a map.
They have great ambitions and want to go “everywhere that’s fun,” but they wonder if that could overload the servers.
“I’m not saying you will encounter one anytime soon, but obviously you can see the giant striders in the background,” Watkins adds, hinting that you may fight against the gigantic ARCs in the distant future that you see wandering on the horizon in some maps – if the developers can find a way to do so without overloading the servers.
Finally, Watkins promises that the shredders will find a way to put you in fear and terror on other maps as well. Currently, the small, nasty robots are only available on Stella Montis. That is set to change in the future. Watkins recently shared some interesting insights into the development of ARC Raiders and his own impressions of the extraction shooter. He is aware that ARC Raiders knows that one thing is missing and admits: He instead plays with free loadouts
