In ARC Raiders the new map was introduced as part of a community event, including specific tasks that you must complete together. However, the developers had to intervene, as players were progressing through it at an astonishing rate.
What kind of live event is this? With the latest Update 1.2.0, the developers not only brought bug fixes and new enemies to ARC Raiders, but also a live event. In the community event “Breaking New Ground” you collect and donate materials. This will restore a tunnel leading to the fifth map “Stella Montis” and unlock the new area together.
Anyone who has played at least five rounds can participate. For donated materials, including basic materials like metal parts or fabric, you will receive merits. You can exchange this currency for rewards in the next phase. For every 5 donated materials, you get 20 merits, and you can farm up to a total of 900.

Why did the developers have to intervene? The community was grinding so diligently that the event would have been completed much faster than planned. The amount of required materials was increased so that players who join the game later can also participate.
In the official Discord for ARC Raiders, the team explains:
Hey, Raiders!
You are pushing the unlock event much faster than we expected. We had no idea that you would all stand so selflessly for the Stella Montis cause, and you are donating far more than we could imagine.
We want Raiders around the world to experience this event. Therefore, we are now increasing the required amount to unlock Stella Montis, hoping that you will surprise us again.
“Everyone gets the chance to earn the rewards”
This is how the community reacts: The decision to increase the necessary resources is well received by the community. Many players say that they probably would hardly have been able to participate due to work schedules or time zones.
For example, Pinstar writes under a Reddit post: “I logged in before work, donated my supplies at 1%. Played one mission. When I was done, it was at 11%. I can’t blame them for raising the limit.”
chicKENkanif also finds the adjustment reasonable and writes on Reddit: “Everyone gets the chance to earn the rewards. Respect.” And LauviteL adds: “It’s only fair. […] The amount jumped to 5% within minutes because everyone was donating. It should at least take a few days so that all players can participate.”
Overall, ARC Raiders is very well received by players. According to SteamDB, the extraction shooter with over 232,000 active players is among the most played games on Steam – even above Battlefield 6 and Rust.
ARC Raiders is also enjoyed by many players as a PvE extraction shooter, without shooting at other player characters. Many of them just want to loot, level up, or complete quests: One fifth of players in ARC Raiders on Steam have not shot anyone yet, and almost half avoid PvP
