Apple has introduced new phones with the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro. Now it has been announced that the iPhone 15 Pro will be ‘the best gaming console’. This is mainly due to the powerful chip that is installed.
In a few days, Apple’s new smartphones from the 15 series will be released. In an interview with IGN, Apple has now stated that it has big plans for its new iPhone. Because it aims to create nothing less than the ‘best gaming console’. Apple refers to the old saying: ‘The best gaming console is the one you have with you.’
iPhone 15 Pro is not yet a competitor to PS5 and Xbox
In a conversation with IGN, Jeremy Sandmel, Apple’s Senior Director of GPU Software, explained that Apple has big plans. Sandmel believes that the iPhone 15 Pro will be ‘the best gaming console’, without exceptions.
However, it does not want to compete with the major gaming consoles:
I think we focus on the developers and the titles of the games. We are trying less to compete with consoles. I think consoles are just a convenient way for us to talk about the classic games and the types of games that the developers we target and who are successful there provide. We have done our best to try to provide the developers with the same toolbox, and we are working hard with them.
Where does the confidence come from? Apple has installed the new ‘A17 Pro’ chip in the new iPhone 15 Pro, which is supposed to bring significant improvements in the GPU area: more performance and better energy efficiency. Apple itself states that we can expect 20% more GPU performance and also hardware-accelerated ray tracing.
This will support hardware ray tracing for the first time in a smartphone; the chip is exclusively manufactured for Apple by TSMC. The improved Neural Engine is also said to be able to handle demanding games. With Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Resident Evil, two AAA titles are expected to run on the new iPhone 15 Pro.
There are no significant benchmarks yet, but that is expected to change soon: The iPhone 15 and the Pro model will officially be available for purchase from September 22, 2023. Then everyone can see for themselves the performance of Apple’s new model.
