Ubisoft’s battle epic For Honor was actually written off by many players shortly after its release. However, it seems to have many fans and is still successful.
As Ubisoft announced during a conference call about the company’s financial situation, For Honor boasts more than 7.5 million players in total. Over one million players are actively engaged in battles each month.
These numbers paint a very different picture than what is usually portrayed of the game.
Much criticism at launch
For Honor launched exactly one year ago, on February 14, 2017. However, criticism was immediately voiced, especially regarding the multiplayer mode, which ran over peer-to-peer connections and therefore lacked stability, leading to frustration.
Fans long called for dedicated servers, which are now being introduced on February 19. After a year of criticism, one might think that For Honor would be on the brink of collapse, and at times it looked that way.
Similar development as with The Division?
But Ubisoft is known for caring about its games. The company does not give up easily, as seen with the online shooter The Division. This game was also heavily criticized repeatedly and received update after update addressing the issues that players disliked.
This ensured that The Division did not disappear without a trace but has managed to stay successfully in the market to this day. A similarly positive development has occurred with Rainbow Six: Siege.
Ubisoft does not give up
And this is exactly what Ubisoft is doing with For Honor. The online action game is regularly supplied with updates and new content. Events are held frequently to keep players entertained. Now, with dedicated servers, Ubisoft is tackling one of the biggest issues.
It seems that the developers can turn things around. Because one million unique players a month is an impressive number. The fans appreciate this and recognize Ubisoft’s efforts, likely giving For Honor another chance.
