EA has officially introduced the upcoming Season 3 for Apex Legends. Some of the leaks have turned out to be true and more information has been released. We provide you here with all the information we have about Season 3 so far.
When does Season 3 start? On the official page of Apex Legends, the start of Season 3 is dated for October 1, 2019. This corresponds to the timing we speculated about in advance. The Season will likely run for three months again. Its name is “Meltdown”.
What does Season 3 bring? Along with Season 3, several new features are being introduced, including a new legend, a new weapon:
- The new legend Crypto appears
- The new weapon “Charge Rifle” is coming
- The Battle Pass will have new rewards
- Ranked matches will be partially reset and more expensive
Especially Crypto has already been suspected by the community as a new legend since Season 2. Recently, there have been repeated leaks about Crypto that have reinforced the suspicion. Now he is confirmed as the next legend.
Apex Legends Season 3 “Meltdown” – Details on the Launch
This is the new legend Crypto: Crypto is the hacker allegedly responsible for the changes to the map in Season 2, by bringing down Relay. His abilities have not yet been confirmed, but there are leaks in advance with some speculations:
- A drone he can use to monitor the air and track enemies
- An EMP that damages or destroys shields and devices
- Passive detection of objects within 30 meters
Some of these abilities are also shown in a story video that introduces Crypto. His motivation seems to be that he is looking for a “Mila”, possibly his sister:
This is the new weapon “Charge Rifle”: So far, we know from official sources only that the Charge Rifle will be an energy weapon. It would thus be the fourth energy weapon after the Triple Take, the Devotion, and the Havoc.
In Titanfall 2, which Apex Legends is based on in many ways, the Charge Rifle is an “anti-Titan” weapon. It can be charged and fires a strong energy beam after a short time, causing high damage.
The beam has no travel time and does not lose height (“hitscan”). In Apex Legends, the Charge Rifle could thus become a type of heavy sniper rifle that deals similar damage to the Kraber and possibly inflicts increased damage to shields.
Changes in Ranked: The Ranked mode introduced with Season 2 will be slightly adjusted. There will be a “soft reset” that slightly resets your achieved rank, allowing you to play again. There will now be cosmetic ranked rewards.
One of the biggest changes is the tenfold increase of all ranked points to allow for intermediate steps and a more accurate distribution. Additionally, the entry costs will rise starting from Silver League.
Points, on the other hand, are now also easier to obtain. Assists now count as well, and at the end of the match, a multiplier will be added depending on your placement.
The leagues and the matchmaking with friends remain the same. You can find all changes in the official post by EA.
This is included in the Battle Pass: The Battle Pass is expected to contain over 100 exclusive contents. These include:
- Legendary skins
- Apex Packs
- “New content”
However, what the new contents exactly are has not yet been revealed. As soon as we know more, we will let you know.
