Release on Steam and Nintendo Switch with crossplay for Apex Legends. In the big announcement stream for “EA Play 2020”, the developers revealed their plans for the near future.
Apex Legends is one of the best and most successful battle royales and aims to become even bigger. During EA Play 2020, the developers announced how they plan to achieve this: they will bring Apex to more platforms and enable everyone to play together.
Respawn Entertainment announces crossplay for 5 platforms
What did the developers reveal about the future of Apex? Already in autumn 2020, Apex Legends will become a crossplay title. Joining Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite will be the next big battle royale with crossplay, this time from EA.

When is crossplay coming to Apex? Although the developers from Respawn Entertainment did not mention an exact date, it is expected to arrive in autumn this year. By the end of 2020 at the latest, you will be able to play with all your friends on almost every platform.
Which platforms are involved? In addition to the crossplay release, Apex will also be available on 2 new platforms. The free-to-play title will launch on Nintendo Switch and Steam. In total, Apex will then be available on 5 platforms that can all play together:
- PlayStation 4
- Xbox One
- Nintendo Switch
- PC: Origin
- PC: Steam
With the release of the next generation of consoles, there may even be more platforms added. However, nothing was revealed about this in the current EA Play stream.
Were there any other announcements in the stream? There were also some new info for the current Season 5. A new event called “Lost Treasures – Collection Event” will start on June 23:
During the event, you can secure special cosmetics and a new mode will be available – “Armed & Dangerous Evolved”.
In this mode, you will only fight with shotguns and sniper rifles. Additionally, there will be no respawn stations on the map, but a new item allows you to bring back your fallen teammates anywhere, the “Mobile Respawn Beacon”.
Apex aims to continue growing and achieving new successes with these announcements. In the stream, they stated that Season 5 was the best and biggest season release the battle royale has ever experienced, despite some technical issues.
