Currently, there is only one map in Apex Legends. But what’s next? Are new maps coming, or will the old one be rebuilt repeatedly?
This is what the developers plan for the map: Currently, 60 players are battling in Apex Legends in 20 3-person teams on the only map, King’s Canyon. The map has been rebuilt multiple times according to studio head Vince Zampella, sometimes made larger and sometimes smaller. Now, it is said to be just right as it is.
What do the developers want to do going forward? According to Vince Zampella, King’s Canyon will not be the end. They plan to introduce more maps after the launch. However, what they will look like is still open.
“We will likely release larger maps when we decide that it will be fun,” the boss said in an interview with Venturebeat.
Apex Legends seems to be following the path of PUBG
By likely focusing on multiple maps, Apex Legends is taking the path of PUBG. There, additional, often smaller maps were gradually introduced. However, it seems that Apex is leaning towards larger maps and potentially higher player counts.
Fortnite and Black Ops 4: Blackout, on the other hand, relied on a single map that is constantly expanded and changed. It remains to be seen if the new map in Apex will not become as unpopular as the desert map Miramar was in PUBG at the beginning.
Seasons bring new content
What’s next for Apex Legends? Already in March, Apex Legends will start its first of four planned seasons in 2019. There will also be a Battle Pass like Fortnite where you can unlock goodies.
In each season, there will be new heroes, weapons, and loot. This way, new content will be regularly crafted, and all players can look forward to innovations. Apex Legends may cater to players who prefer fewer but better-planned updates.
