For a week now, Season 5 has been playable in Apex Legends. Many have once again jumped into the Battle Royale and are apparently having a great time with the new features. However, there is a significant problem that is bothering them.
What is the problem? It concerns a massive bug that currently causes players to hit their opponents but do no damage. The hit registration is apparently currently disrupted. This seems to have become a significant issue only since the start of Season 5 on May 12.
On the Apex Legends subreddit, players repeatedly share short clips that precisely demonstrate what the problem is. A post by the Reddit user Shaynel11 has received over 20,000 upvotes and shows in slow motion that his shots hit but are not counted:
The streamer and “human aimbot” shroud once had a similar problem with his aim. In his case, it was due to a miscalculation on his part. In this instance, however, it seems to be a larger problem, which even the developers confirm.
Why is this such a big problem? In a shooter, it is important that a hit is indeed counted as a hit. In the case of Apex Legends, it is currently an issue that can even lead to players losing rounds unfairly.
The clip from Reddit user jaumue-91 shows how he is in the final duel with the only other remaining team alongside his own team. He fires several shots from a shotgun at an opponent but inflicts no damage. Ultimately, he loses:
“Hit registration” in Apex – Developers are working on it
What are the developers doing about it? The players’ complaints are not falling on deaf ears. The developers, according to their own statements, are working on fixing the problem.
In a tweet from the official Twitter account, it states that the problem is known and that they are working on a solution. Once there is one, they intend to inform the players.
Just a few days ago, Apex developer Respawn established a new development studio in Vancouver that is solely focused on the development of Apex Legends (via gamesindustry.biz). Therefore, the efforts to resolve the issues could soon accelerate.
How are players reacting to this? Although the problem frustrates players, many understand that a fix cannot happen overnight. The current coronavirus crisis and the associated work from home does not make it easier.
On Reddit, the user jimtheburger reminded that the developers are working from home on the problem and therefore should be given some time. The post received 2,700 upvotes.
Season 5 is well received – despite the bug
Apart from the issue with hit registration, the new Season 5 is being received quite well. Especially the new legend Loba, who stands out with unusually much sex appeal, is currently exciting the community.
MeinMMO author Jürgen Horn even believes that Season 5 will be the most exciting season of Apex Legends so far. Whether it can maintain this will remain to be seen – after all, it has only been a week since its release.
However, Season 5 has ensured that Apex Legends has landed in the top spot of trending games on Twitch and the fifth most streamed game in the past week:

Still, the game remains popular, and the new season has sparked renewed interest from more players. This is one of the reasons why it is among the three top shooter alternatives to CoD Warzone. How long the success will last and whether Season 5 will get even better is yet to be seen.
