Apex Legends features microtransactions that provide players with real-money currency, Apex Coins. However, one player received coins worth over a million dollars and doesn’t even know why.
What happened? Reddit user and Apex player MrJakeHD was astonished when an outrageous amount of Apex Coins suddenly appeared in his account after a round of Apex Legends. He had over 125 million units of the real currency “Apex Coins” in his balance.
How much is that worth? Those wanting to purchase Apex Coins through microtransactions would need to dig very deep into their pockets for this amount. At current prices, this would exceed one million US dollars that one would have to pay for the coins.
Was it a bug or a benefactor?
Where did the money come from? MrJakeHD has no idea where this windfall came from. Did he perhaps play a round with an extremely grateful millionaire who got his first victory thanks to him?

And did he then come up with the idea to just take a million and gift it to his new companion?
Not likely, as many players suspect a quirky bug behind the gift. MrJakeHD is therefore criticized by some Reddit users for making his win so public and effectively betraying himself.
However, an employee from the developer Respawn has already intervened and commented, “We see this even if it’s not posted on Reddit.” They are apparently aware that there is currently a bug that is showering players with money.
Whether MrJakeHD will be allowed to keep his winnings is questionable. It is likely that the coins will soon disappear from his account. It remains interesting what will happen to any purchased items from the shop.
But maybe Respawn Entertainment will be generous and let him keep the loot or at least a part of it.
What would you do if you suddenly had vast amounts of free in-game currency?
