In Apex Legends starts today, March 3rd, the collection event “System Override”. This brings a new limited-time mode, a brand new item, and many fresh cosmetics.
What is this event? System Override is a collection event where you can unlock up to 24 new cosmetics during the event duration. Once you’ve unlocked them all, you will also receive a new heirloom set for Octane.
You will receive the new cosmetics, as in the Arcade Event “Grand Soiree”, through a prize chain. You unlock them in order by playing and completing challenges.
In addition to the new event, the update includes a patch with numerous bug fixes and changes.
When can I play it? The event starts today, March 3rd, and ends on March 17th after a duration of two weeks.

New Mode and New Item
This is the new mode “Déjà Loot”: Déjà Loot removes the entire random factor from the Battle Royale mode. Each round will therefore proceed under the same conditions:
- Every loot is always found in the same spot.
- The plane follows the same route every time.
- The circle closes in the same spots every time.
The circle and the plane change their positions or routes daily, but the loot remains in the same spots throughout the event.
The event is divided into two phases. In the first phase (Week 1) you play on the new map “Edge of the World” from Season 3. In Week 2, King’s Canyon returns and the event will take place there.
This is what the “Evo Shield” can do: In the new mode, you will also find a brand new item, the Evo Shield. This will only be available in Déjà Loot but may be carried over to regular modes later. Déjà Loot serves as a kind of test.
The Evo Shield starts weaker than the regular (white) shields. The longer you fight with it, that is, the more damage you inflict on opponents, the stronger the shield will become. At its highest level, it is even stronger than epic (purple) shields, with 125 shield points.
The shield could make strong players even stronger since they can upgrade their armor even faster with good performance in combat. However, progress is carried over. If you eliminate a player with a fully charged shield, you can take it from them and use it yourself.
On reddit, people are still debating whether the shield is actually stronger than the gold one. Most players believe that the legendary perk (fast healing) outweighs the additional 25 points.

- greenejs remarks: “However, with the new changes, you no longer have as much healing.”
Nevertheless, the Evo Shield could make for interesting endgame matches when players have no healing items left and find fully upgraded Evo Shields on defeated opponents. How the shield will affect gameplay remains to be seen.
New Skins and Heirlooms
These new skins await you: In the trailer for the System Override event above, new skins for almost all legends can be seen, including the new legend Revenant from Season 4. Only for Wraith is there no new skin to be seen at first glance.
Respawn has already introduced four new weapon skins for
- Peacekeeper
- Wingman
- Triple Take
- R-301
We do not yet know if these are all the weapon skins. However, two are said to be legendary (presumably Triple Take and R-301).
Both the legends and the weapon skins all feature a retro sci-fi look in a cyberpunk style, resembling the depiction of futuristic hacker equipment from 80s films.
This is the new heirloom set: In addition to the new cosmetics, there is a new heirloom set for Octane. It is not fully visible yet. Only his knife is shown, the iconic piece of every heirloom set.
Octane’s knife is a butterfly knife with an integrated adrenaline injector. He stabs himself in the chest when he uses his ability.
How do I get the cosmetics? The new skins are all obtainable through the reward track or in Apex Packs. Apex Packs contain a guaranteed event item and two non-event items.
You will receive the heirloom set as a gift when you have collected all 24 event items. So you need to hurry if you want to unlock it. If you do not succeed, it will then be included as a bonus in Apex Packs, just like all other heirlooms.
This is how heirlooms are changing now: The rewards come with a revamp of the system. Previously, an heirloom was guaranteed after you opened 500 loot boxes, which cost some players a lot of money.
Now, instead, you will receive shards. After a maximum of 500 boxes, you will have enough shards to craft any heirloom set you want. This way, you no longer have to rely on luck to obtain a specific set.
Patch Notes for the New Event Update
Here’s what’s included in the patch: In addition to the changes and innovations of the event, existing content will also be changed. The highlights of the patch are:
- Bloodhound now takes longer to activate Eye of the Allfather, but the range is three times larger.
- The strength of Gibraltar’s gun shield has been reduced from 75 to 50.
- Crypto automatically reloads primary weapons when he controls his drone.
- The inventory is larger:
- without backpack 10 slots (previously 8)
- white backpack: a total of 12 slots
- blue backpack: a total of 14 slots
- purple backpack: a total of 16 slots
- Grenades can no longer be stacked.
- The stack size of consumables and ammo (except shotgun) has been reduced.
There are also minor adjustments to the Peacekeeper and Sentinel as well as to most weapons regarding muzzle flash. “Muzzle Flash” is something that has annoyed players for a long time. This is now less intense when you aim down sights.
