Apex Legends is getting a new legend in Season 2. This time it is Wattson, the electrical trapsetter. At E3 2019, the developers shared more about Wattson for the first time.
Who is Wattson? It has been known for a while that the next legend will be Wattson and that she specializes in traps. Now we finally know more since Respawn Entertainment finally detailed the new character at E3 2019.
Fun Fact: Wattson and her father, an engineer, played a significant role in the construction of the Apex Arena. Therefore, all the other legends know and like Wattson.
As a developer revealed during E3, Wattson was inspired by a real engineer who had a very methodical approach to problems. This dedicated focus was intended to be transferred to the game to create a planned, tactical hero.
The Skills and Role of Wattson
What role does Wattson play? Like the toxic trapper Caustic, Wattson relies on traps and tactical, defensive support gameplay. This makes her more of a situational, defensive character and less of a fast attacker like the recently released Octane.
What are the abilities? Wattson, like all legends, has three skills: one passive, one active, and an ultimate ability. The skills can do the following:
- Electric Fence (active skill): You can set up a type of electric fence. You place up to 12 individual posts to create tactical barriers. When enemies cross the fences, they are pinged for the entire team on the map. Wattson is therefore a strong team player.
- Intercept Pylon (Ultimate): This device is extremely defensive and intercepts air strikes, grenades, and artillery fire. Additionally, it charges allies’ shields and speeds up the construction of the electric fences.
- Passive Ability: When you use an Ultimate Accelerant with Wattson, your ultimate is instantly charged. This way, you can possibly set up many Intercept Pylons and fortify yourself optimally.
How would Wattson play? Wattson is ideal for players who know the map well and can ambush opponents optimally. With her electric fences, she can control the terrain and create special tactical conditions.
The developers want to create a character with Wattson who relies less on hyper-aggressive gameplay, which has been common in Apex Legends until now.
However, some players are already saying that Wattson is more of a hero for campers and find her less exciting than the other characters in the game.
When is Wattson coming? Wattson will be part of Season 2 of Apex Legends. Therefore, you can acquire the new legend at the start of the season.
