The Kraber sniper rifle in Apex Legends was considered a top weapon among players. After a nerf of the weapon in Season 13, players are continuously discussing the change and are divided on what to make of it. Just recently, there was another discussion about it on reddit.
In the patch notes for Season 13 under the motto “Saviors,” changes to the previously strongest sniper rifle in Apex Legends were noted (via ea.com).: The Kraber rifle.
The weapon is listed in the balance updates along with the following changes:
- Headshot multiplier decreased from 3.0 to 2.0
- Damage decreased from 145 to 140
The Kraber rifle thus received a nerf that not all players liked. Back in May 2022, for example, it was discussed on Twitter (via Twitter). Two days ago, there was once again an exchange on reddit about the topic.
Here is the launch trailer for Season 14:
What reddit users are saying in the discussion
User GhostxFilter posted under the headline “Kraber nerf was a mistake” a discussion about the weapon change (via reddit). He asks what the reason for this is and states: “The Kraber has been in the care package since day one, the spawn rate for it seemed non-existent, and given the greater bullet drop and slower projectile speed, getting a headshot with one shot was absolutely a reward for skill with the weapon.” The user further claims that the Kraber rifle is now useless:
[…]The only thing that has changed is the damage, and given the slow speed of the weapon, it is practically impossible to get a kill with it. If you used to get killed by a Kraber, it meant that the person using it was good and that you were killed by an experienced player. If you now get killed by a Kraber, it’s solely your fault because you are an easy target.
If you get hit twice in a row, you need to reposition because you managed to be slower than someone firing another bullet and shooting at you a second time. Moreover, given the improved protective gear and the legends that have more health than God himself, it really wasn’t necessary to decrease the damage.
In my opinion, they shouldn’t have touched the Kraber. It was really perfect the way it was. When I used to see or hear a Kraber, I thought: “Oh, oh… better be careful, there’s a Kraber around,” but now I see it in the game and simply ignore it as just another sniper.
Just my opinion on this.

What do users who agree with the criticism say? In the discussion, some reddit users agree with the criticism and are dissatisfied with the nerf:
- jaCRLee: “I agree and have also agreed to op. It was already significantly limited by the care package (it was rare, or with the ammo in general). It’s hardly worth picking up now when you have other weapons that can kill faster. It wouldn’t make sense to allow just one per game, that would practically make them nonexistent. They should have left it as is. Especially since the helmets have already received a buff”.
What do commenters who disagree with the criticism say? Not everyone agrees with the criticism. Many users see no problem with the nerf. They believe that the Kraber rifle is still a good weapon:
- Impurity 41: “I feel that it is a guaranteed 3,2,1 weapon for the team or a great push tool if you manage to get 2 of them” [This is a strategy in the game where you agree on a target as a team and shoot at it simultaneously]
- jape-the-neck-guy: “I think people underestimate how useful so much damage can be. Any kind of hit still requires them to go into cover and heal, and you still need the right combination of helmet and shield to withstand even a headshot, and even if they can, they are still damn near a shot. It wasn’t necessarily broken before, just unfair. It’s still damn powerful and a game changer to have. Provided you can fire shots with that thing”.
Some also express a mixed opinion: Fandomer explains his opinion as follows: “‘Now it’s just useless’ lmao no, it still hits 140 to body or head shots on the opponent, who either gets one-shotted or stands there with low hp. In mid/high ranks, you will still die to 321 and Kraber, so I partially agree that nerfing it is pointless in my opinion.”
Players are divided on what to think about the change to the well-known weapon. In any case, the topic still seems to be present in the community.
