In Apex Legends there are currently two legends that you cannot play right away. You must unlock them or pay real money. Therefore, the question arises: Which one is worth it for which type of player?
How do you get the two heroes? The two legends Caustic and Mirage are only available for Legend Tokens or Apex Coins. You can acquire them as follows:
- You need 12,000 Legend Tokens. You earn these through leveling up, which you gain through experience points. The more aggressively and successfully you play in a match, the more XP you will earn at the end. From around level 23, you can unlock one of the two characters.
- For 750 Apex Coins, you can also get one of the heroes. The coins are only available in the cash shop. 1,000 coins cost 9.99 Euros. Thus, 750 can be had for around 7.50 Euros.
If you don’t want to spend too much money or are not progressing well, you should read the following paragraphs carefully, where we explain both characters in detail and give tips on who should unlock which hero first.
Caustic
This is Caustic: Caustic is a psychopath who enjoys killing people with poison gas and sees it all as an experiment. He is a rather defensive character who booby traps areas with gas traps and quickly detects when an enemy enters his perimeter.
The poison gas deals damage, slows enemies, and exposes them in the gas cloud. Caustic himself can see through the gas clouds and is immune to the poison.
As an ultimate, he can throw a gas grenade that drives enemies out of cover or kills them over time.
Why you should unlock Caustic: Caustic is ideal for players who like to play tactically and lure enemies into traps. He allows for delightfully nasty actions, such as trapping enemies in rooms with gas traps and letting the trapped enemies die slowly in the gas.
Additionally, Caustic is a real villain and perfect for anyone who wants to play a bad guy. However, keep in mind that his skills are very situational and Caustic may not always be optimal in offensive maneuvers.
Mirage
This is Mirage: The joker Mirage is one of the funniest heroes in the game. He always has a silly remark ready and has some skills with which you can ultimately annoy enemies. He can send out an illusion at any time, which usually draws fire.
This is ideal for distracting the opponent in wild fights or to see if the coast is clear. If the illusion is shot at, you know that enemies are nearby and recognize their position.
If Mirage is downed, he becomes invisible for a few seconds and leaves behind an illusion. Ideal for escaping a tricky situation.
As his ultimate ability, Mirage sends out multiple illusions and becomes invisible himself. The effect is similar to Wraith’s phase. This maneuver is ideal for escaping a tough fight or creating a distraction.
Why you should unlock Mirage: Mirage has the advantage that his skills are very easy to learn. His tactical ability and his ultimate function quite similarly and can be applied intuitively.
Additionally, Mirage supports an offensive playstyle and rewards you for playing aggressively and regularly using your skills. Plus, he continually cracks silly jokes.
Which hero is better?
Ultimately, it depends on your individual preference as to whom you unlock first. But in the end, Mirage is probably more recommended for most players:
- He plays intuitively
- His skills fit better with the dynamic gameplay of Apex
- His abilities are less situational
