Apex Legends is back as the top battle royale game on Twitch. After a rough start to the year, the fast-paced shooter from Respawn is back at the top. The main reason lies in the weakness of the large competitor Warzone. Read everything about this topic here on MeinMMO.
How is Apex Legends currently doing on Twitch? Looking at the current (as of October 9, 2021) Twitch charts of the last 7 days (via TwitchTracker), Apex Legends ranks 6th with 93.3K viewers and 15.7 million hours streamed. Only games like the new New World, DotA 2, GTA V, and League of Legends are ahead of Apex.
If we look only at the charts in the battle royale genre, Apex Legends is unchallenged at the top. Next comes Fortnite, which, with 12.4 million streaming hours and 73.4K viewers, finishes significantly behind in 2nd place.
CoD Warzone comes in 3rd place with 67.7K viewers and 11.4 million hours. By the way, neither are among the general top 10 on Twitch. They are ranked 11th and 12th respectively.

Apex Legends encroaches on Warzone
What was the situation like earlier? However, Apex Legends did not have these top numbers beforehand. After a very weak year in 2020, where Apex averaged around 33,000 viewers on Twitch, the game saw significant growth in the spring, but peaked in the summer of 2021.
Curiously, during this time, the numbers for Fortnite and especially Warzone fell.
What is the reason for Apex’s success? The main reason for the success of Apex Legends is partly at the expense of Call of Duty: Warzone. The large BR mode that combines all CoD games since Modern Warfare still has a massive hacker problem.
Cheaters ruin the fun for numerous players, and especially high-ranking streamers like NICMERCS, TimTheTatman, and CouRage left the hacked Verdansk behind and turned to Apex Legends among other games. And it seems their viewers stuck around.
What is next for Apex Legends? Currently, Season 10 is ongoing in Apex Legends with a Halloween event, which will likely last until November 2nd. Season 11 should then continue on November 3rd, which will probably feature a Christmas event with some crazy new skins. According to rumors, the cyborg Ash is set to be introduced as a new character. We even had to assemble her components ourselves in a previous season.
However, there are also issues with Apex Legends. The servers have been unstable for some time, and there are also numerous DDoS attacks from hackers, sabotaging servers in the top leagues of the rankings out of malice. This currently leads to players struggling through hacked sessions to avoid losing rank points.
