The battle royale shooter Apex Legends will receive a new map with Season 3 on Tuesday. The competition with Fortnite is still hesitant. Since their Season 3, for a year and a half, Fortnite fans have been hoping for a new map. Maybe it will happen with Season 11.
This is the situation with Apex Legends: On October 1st, Season 3 of Apex Legends begins. Now the developer Respawn has made it clear: A new map is coming. So far, it was only known that a new legend and a weapon are on the way.
Thus, Season 3 will be the first major content push that Apex Legends will receive since the surprising launch in February 2019.
Season 2 was rather meager, and caused some fans and the stock market to feel disillusioned after the massive hype at launch.
Respawn wanted to support Apex Legends with events and new skins – but the last event caused quite a bit of trouble. A new trailer showcasing truly new content is now much more exciting.
A new map of ice and fire
This is what we know about the new map: Respawn has shown the new map in a trailer.
It becomes clear, the legends are leaving King’s Canyon and landing on the new map, “World’s Edge.” Here, molten heat and chemical ice are supposed to clash. It looks a bit like a map of ice and fire.
Additionally, with the season, the new legend Crypto will make her debut.
Why this is remarkable: Apex Legends has always been accused of bringing new content too slowly.
With the new map, however, they seem to have a lead. Because the competitor Fortnite, who usually shines in the “new content” area, has also not introduced a new map in Season 10.
Fortnite: Speculations about the map for a year and a half
This is the situation with Fortnite: Fortnite fans have been expecting since Season 3 that developer Epic will launch a new map with their vast resources.
It was likely since there were also new maps in the “predecessor”, Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds. These bring variety to the game.
Fortnite does everything to keep the game fresh – the easiest solution would be to simply introduce a new map.
In Season 3, a meteor appeared in Fortnite: At that time, it was thought it would destroy the map and bring something new. But that was not the case. The meteorite impact merely changed the familiar map.
This pattern has become the trademark of Fortnite. In the last year and a half, the existing map of Fortnite has constantly changed:
- In one quarter, it became winter
- In another, a desert formed
- Or even a volcano erupted.
Recently, Fortnite has once again proven that they are willing to make radical changes: Just recently, changes to matchmaking were announced. Epic is not afraid to go to the fundamentals of Fortnite.
And what could be more radical than changing the map? Especially since Fortnite seems to be losing some momentum.
Will Fortnite also get a new map soon?
At the moment, hopes are high for Fortnite that a new map could come with Season 11. This has not been officially announced yet – but fans have drawn clues about the new map from leaks and the sometimes cryptic story of Fortnite.
Even though hope exists, it is still not concrete with Fortnite.
For now, Apex Legends is ahead: With Season 3 bringing a new map – that is something many would have wished from Fortnite back then.
