Season 3 of Apex Legends begins today, October 1st for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Along with Season 3, a new map, a new legend, and additional features will be released.
When does Season 3 start? Season 3 of Apex Legends started on October 1st at 21:00 German time. You can jump in and play right away.
How big is the update? The patch for Season 3 varies in size across platforms:
- Xbox One: about 10.35GB
- PS4: About 7.75GB
- PC: about 7GB
When does Season 3 end? While there is no specific date, previous seasons have typically lasted about three months. Thus, the next season would fall on January 1st, and it will likely either be slightly postponed due to the holidays or will use the new year to celebrate.
The patch notes for Season 3
What changes with Season 3? Right in time for the launch of Season 3, EA released the patch notes on October 1st. Here are the highlights:
- During the launch of Season 3, only World’s Edge will be playable. King’s Canyon is disabled until then.
- The attachments “Skullpiercer” and “Disruptor Rounds” have been removed.
- The attachments “Anvil Receiver” (Flatline/R-301) and “Double Tap Trigger” (G7/EVA-8) have been added.
- Ultimate Accelerants are now 40% rarer but now grant 35% charging (previously 20%).
- The golden backpack (Tier 4) now has the new perk “Guardian Angel”. If someone with “Guardian Angel” revives a teammate, they will receive more health and a bit of shield charge after the revival.
- The golden armor (Level 4) now has the former effect of the backpack, allowing healing items to be used faster.
- The “Executioner” perk of the armor is now passively unlocked for all legends. Everyone now receives full shields after a successful finisher.
In addition, there are several changes to heroes and weapons, new weapons in “gold” quality, bug fixes, and “Quality of Life” changes. You can find the full patch notes in English on the official website.
The new map of Season 3
What kind of map is it? With Season 3, Apex Legends is getting a new map that greatly differs from King’s Canyon. The map will be named “World’s Edge.”
World’s Edge consists of several “biomes” spread across the map. You will find an icy center, lava in the south, and green spaces in the northwest.
What does the new map offer? In an initial look at the new map, 15 different locations are visible that can serve as points of interest for players:
- Skyhook: A metropolis in the northwest with many towers and a pylon-like structure in the center.
- Drill Site: A vast, open area with some large yellow drills.
- Lava Fissure: Several buildings on a small lava lake with many zip lines and a nameless pit nearby, reminiscent of “The Pit” from King’s Canyon.
- The Train Yard: A siding with many metallic structures for climbing and hiding.
- Thermal Station: A flat area, also quite open, surrounded by lava.
- The Tree: Some lootable houses and a large leaf in the center.
- Sorting Factory: One of the larger locations. You’ll find wide, semi-open areas and some buildings, likely suitable for medium-range shootouts.
- The Dome: A pit in the southeast of the map, where several buildings are available for looting and filled with lava.
- Lava City: A smaller cluster of houses.
- Fuel Depot: More small houses with loot. Many smaller buildings.
- The Geyser: A tropical-looking, almost idyllic place with small blue lakes and green terrain. Here you will find geysers that launch you into the air.
- Overlook: Some buildings near a cliff.
- Refinery: A smaller location. There are some crates you can climb on.
- Capitol City: Similar to Skyhook, a large city with high-rise buildings and other structures. However, the city is somewhat damaged from the explosion in Epicenter.
- The Epicenter: A huge machine that resembles a drilling platform or repulsor, surrounded by everything completely frozen.
The lava is one of the new features of the map and inflicts damage on players when they are in it. This opens up possibilities for more tactical gameplay.
Additionally, there seem to be keycards that open secret loot rooms containing plenty of high-tier loot. In the gameplay trailer, you can see some of the features of the map in more detail:
What are the features of Season 3?
This new legend is coming: As already leaked beforehand and subsequently announced, the new legend Crypto will appear in Season 3. Crypto relies on his abilities for control and aggressive defense to punish offensive players:
- Surveillance Drone (active): Crypto stays in place and sends out his drone to scout.
- Neuralink (passive): Enemies within 30 meters of the drone are revealed.
- Drone EMP (Ultimate): Crypto lets his drone emit an EMP (it must remain alive for this). The EMP deals 50 damage to shields and stuns targets in the area. Crypto can damage his own shield if hit, and the stun also affects him and his team.
Since the drone is quite capable, let’s break it down here separately. You control the drone and can continue to ping enemies and share information, but remain unprotected.
Every enemy within 30 meters is automatically highlighted for the team, and they are also notified. This is the passive ability. Doors or crates are also marked. The drone can even pick up allies’ banners but can only sustain a few hits.
If you do not actively control the drone, you can even set it down. It will stay where it is and continue to provide information about what is happening around it. You can call it back with the push of a button.
The new map and Crypto with his abilities could drastically change Apex Legends.
This new weapon is appearing: Also visible in the gameplay video is the new weapon, the Charge Rifle. The Charge Rifle is an energy weapon that works with a charge mechanic and fires.
You charge a shot briefly and then fire a strong energy beam forward that deals high damage and has no travel time. The Charge Rifle was already present in Titanfall 2 and was considered an “anti-titan weapon”.
The new weapon can be equipped with magazines, sights, and a stock. Unlike the L-STAR, it is a regular weapon and not a legendary one, which is why it can be found everywhere.
What does the Battle Pass of Season 3 contain?
What is up for grabs: With the start of Season 3, EA and Respawn also presented the new Battle Pass. This will feature new challenges with various rewards, such as:
- XP boosts
- Apex packs
- 1200 crafting materials
- 1000 Apex coins
- new legendary items
The Battle Pass costs 950 Apex coins. The bundle with 25 levels costs 2800 Apex coins.
What skins are available? As seen beforehand, there will be several skins to earn, both for legends and weapons. Some skins are even available for purchase right away: The “Reckoner” Longbow as well as skins for Mirage, Octane, and Bloodhound.
- Throughout the levels, there will be additional rewards:
- Legendary skin “Iced Out” for Pathfinder (included in the bundle)
- Legendary skin “From the Ashes” for Lifeline
- Legendary, reactive skin “Frostbite” for the Peacekeeper
