What is this secret tip? Tribes of Midgard was released in August 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. At that time, the game looked more like a survival MMO with many combat mechanics in the trailers.
At release, Tribes of Midgard played out quite differently. It now resembles a roguelite action RPG with an isometric perspective. You play as a Viking who must defend your village during the impending twilight of the gods.
Tribes of Midgard is one of the games for PS Plus in May 2022 and offers content for solo players as well as in co-op with up to 10 players.

This is how Tribes of Midgard plays: At its core, Tribes of Midgard is an action RPG. You control your Viking from an isometric perspective and fight against enemies. Choose one of the 8 available classes, level up, and gather resources and souls.
With that, you craft armor, tools, and weapons to hunt more enemies in the various biomes. The expansion of the village must also be advanced: defensive structures, upgrades for craftsmen, and even quests are available.
You can choose whether to face the dangers of the world in story mode or in endless mode.
What is the goal? In each season, you pursue a different goal, such as defeating the mythical Fenris wolf or the Midgard serpent. To do this, you must find paths to the monsters and then slay them.
You’re under time pressure, as you only have a limited number of days. You will be attacked regularly and must fend off enemies and even powerful boss giants. The attacks get stronger and stronger. If they overwhelm your village, you have to start over.
Every death is also punished, as you first have to recover your corpse and your equipment. A small mistake can cost you the entire round late in the game, especially if you already have a horde of monsters on your back.
For survival, you gain access to new content and even new classes to choose from.
How is the game doing? Tribes of Midgard has lost many players over the months. A major problem is that roguelites are a classic indie genre and tend to fall into niches. Those who wanted an MMO were disappointed. I had less trouble with this, as roguelites are exactly my thing:
The developers are already working to improve the game. After 97% of players disappeared on Steam, Tribes of Midgard wants to become more like the survival game Valheim.
Less Time Pressure, More Valheim in the Future
This is how it continues: With one of the upcoming updates, Tribes of Midgard aims to reinvent itself completely. The survival mode will then resemble Valheim more: You will have more building components and primarily defend your own base, which you also build yourself.
You shouldn’t have any time pressure anymore, but can explore at your own pace, discover the world, and pursue your own goals. You will also be able to further level up your character and discover more options to realize yourself.
When this update will be released is still open. Currently, the second season, the serpent saga, is running. This started back in December 2021. So it is likely that season 3 or the new content will be just around the corner.
