Anyone looking for more Baldur’s Gate 3 and eagerly awaiting Patch 8 can soon look forward to a new game: The biggest streamers of the fantasy RPG Dungeons & Dragons are working on a new game.
Which streamers are those? The streamers in question are the team from Critical Role. This is a group of American voice actors who play their private campaign of Dungeons & Dragons on Twitch.
Since their launch in 2015 at Geek & Sundry, they moved to their own channels in 2018 and have since acted as their own studio. The success of Critical Role reached such heights that they were able to raise over $11,300,000 via Kickstarter for an animated episode based on their first campaign. Amazon Prime secured the rights, and as of the time of this news, instead of just one episode of The Legend of Vox Machina, 36 episodes have been released over three seasons.
In an interview with Business Insider (Paywall), Critical Role CEO and player Travis Willingham has now announced the group’s latest project: A video game.
A new game for fans of Baldur’s Gate 3 – In Exandria
What kind of game will it be? The Critical Role team intends to officially announce the new video game very soon, says Willingham. He mentions that the team has been working hard on the new title. He doesn’t want to get more specific.
However, Willingham states that the game will take place in the world of Exandria, the setting of the three major campaigns: [The players] will actually take control themselves and influence the outcome of the story by not only changing some of their favorite characters, but also introducing new elements in the world of Exandria.
More detailed information is expected to follow soon
.
What other new things will there be at Critical Role? In the interview with Business Insider, the video game is mentioned as only one of five points that Critical Role plans to expand this year:
- More live shows and more streaming, following the recent conclusion of the third major campaign.
- The release of their own tabletop game
Daggerheart
. - New books and graphic novels around the established Critical Role lore are to be expected, and they are working on new ideas for additional TV series. However, the latter will have nothing to do with the known Exandria universe.
- The team is also currently simultaneously working on the voice recordings for the English audio track of The Legend of Vox Machina Season 4 and Season 1 of The Mighty Nein, a new series based on their second D&D stream campaign. Release dates have not been announced.
Critical Role recently concluded its third campaign after 121 episodes and celebrated its 10-year streaming anniversary on March 13, 2025. Presumably, the main part of the group will take it slow for now.
