Anthem should also be playable with your children. BioWare is planning a family-friendly game.
There will likely be no bloody carnage, brutal scenes of violence, or disturbing moments in Anthem – because the upcoming MMO from BioWare and EA is supposed to be a game for the whole family.
This was revealed by BioWare’s General Manager Aaron Flynn in a conversation with CBC Radio.
The developers are getting older and want to create a game for their children
Flynn says that the publisher Electronic Arts, the parent company of BioWare, approached the developers and offered them the opportunity to create a completely new and original brand. This is quite rare in the industry, which is why they didn’t want to miss the chance.
They sat down together and thought about what would be fun. The life circumstances of the developers heavily influenced the development of the basic concept of Anthem: Flynn has two sons and has always wanted a game that he could play with them. He knows many men and women in the studio who are in similar life situations. Everyone is getting older and more mature.
Anthem is now the chance for the BioWare developers to create a game that they can play with their families, Flynn says.
What age rating Anthem will have is still unknown. They may be aiming for “12 and up”. That there will be “violence representation” was already visible in the gameplay trailer: In Anthem, you hunt monsters and looters and face unknown dangers in a primitive world. You are equipped with exosuits that are packed with weapons and special abilities. So you certainly won’t be flying into the foreign world to pet the monsters.
Interestingly, at the beginning of the gameplay trailer, there is a warning that the video may contain content unsuitable for children:
We are curious how BioWare will implement the family-friendly “shared-world action RPG”. I believe: There is no need for glorification of violence for games to captivate you. We have summarized all the information about Anthem here.
Interestingly: Destiny was originally designed as a game for 7-year-olds
